The Unofficial Page has been updated and now contains information that can be considered "official". The map snippet from UMSL may be of particular interest (it didn't translate to GIF very well, but it's readable).

Sorry, don't have a start list yet. Not sure what the hold up is there, but I'm sure Gary will get them on the SLOC site soon.

"Clue sheets will be given two minutes prior to start and you're definitely going to want to read them, so have a system worked out in advance."

What sort of 'system' would you suggest? Reading glasses?

Where is this "map snippet"?

Rudy: some predetermined way to handle it, like a clue sheet holder or a stapler if you want to attach it to the map (I'm not sure why you'd want to do the latter, since the clues are on the map, but who knows).

John: Dig down to the map notes for UMSL and there's a link to the specatator map: http://carolsteam.org/racing/default.aspx/ameet/um...

Any word on whether or not there will be access to a training area on Friday? If so, when/where? Thanks!

Still working on it, but I'll go a little ways out on a limb and say that we will most likely have something setup at S-F Friday evening.

Set up after the sprint, right?

Speaking of which, and the other areas, for that matter... what is embargoed?

Thanks for posting that sprint map excerpt. As someone who has had big problems with uncrossable features in the past, I will be "getting my learn on" so as not to embarrass myself again.

Would this be before or after getting "the clear" on as well? What about sunscreen? Could be sunny you know.

Embargoed areas are:

All of Hawn except for the campground.
All of S-F except what we carve out for a model event.
All of UMSL except for what's indicated on the spectator map.

My thinking is that we could do a model event at S-F starting around 5PM. That's still 3 hours of daylight, which is plenty considering we'll only have about .25km^2 to work with. It's a rather feature rich map though, so you can have quite a bit of fun in a small area. Of course, there's 15km^2 available on the old map, but the newly mapped area would certainly be of more use.

All this is contingent on getting permission to use the land Friday evening, which I don't have yet.

I think Balter's BalmĀ® works as sunscreen as well. I've been applying it liberally.

I think I'd be careful with anything called Balter Bomb.

So what about walking from the North Campus metro link stop to the spectator area? Is there a way to do this without entering the embargoed area?

The North Campus stop, parking, registration, start, and finish are all in the spectator area.

How long does it take to drive down to S-F from UMSL campus? Likewise to the event center?

couple of spectator map questions: should one assume that when the corner of the building virtually touches the track symbol that there is no passage through at that point? along the tracks to the designated passage over the tracks

and, I was studying ISSOM standards, and ahem, shouldn't the road that goes under the tracks south of the station be dashed even if it is not a passage for the competition?

The first point is moot given the course setting, but the rule is that if there is any space between uncrossable features, you're free to try and squeeze through there. In this case, you can run between the tracks and the building, but if a train was coming it would be pretty close. Therefore I mapped the building as actually touching the tracks which makes that route forbidden.

On the second point, the issue is a little less clear. The passage indicator is generally used for clarity. You can find it on the map in several places where it's not obvious that you can go underneath something. In the case of the railroad tracks, the bridge symbol along the edge and presence of the road gives ample indication. Also, the use of the mandatory crossing point was anticipated, which makes the passage symbol redundant. Therefore, it was left off on both rail overpasses to keep the map from getting cluttered.

Drive time from UMSL to S-F is anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic (an accident during rush hour on I-55 would increase that even more). My expectation given the number of starters is that we'll be out of UMSL by 4 at the latest, so you'd still have some daylight down at S-F even in the slow case.

You drive right past the event motel about 15 minutes before reaching S-F.

All this stuff (including detailed directions) will be posted on my page in the next couple days. Right now, I have to get some sleep as I have a long day of control hanging tomorrow.

Sweetness. Now if you can fix the weather, we're all set.
