| LKohn: | Be patient...it hasn't been that long and it's important that you give it time to heal. You still have one good leg and a couple of arms...keep working on them...and get someone to set up a program for you. Keep smiling! |

| cedarcreek: | I have been amazed at how slowly my broken wrist heals. At six weeks, the doctor said, "Well, the bones should be knitted." But he went on to emphasize what he had told me weeks earlier---that the ligaments would likely take up to six months to heal completely. (Full disclosure: I do have a bone chip attached to a ligament that should reattach over the next two years---that he wasn't too concerned about.)
It got me thinking about how many people on AP have had ankle troubles. I should also emphasize here, up front, that I'm not a medical professional in any way. I'm at 12 weeks (on Tuesday), and I can say, without exaggerating, that I can feel a day-by-day improvement. I can feel soreness get better even compared to a few days ago. The improvements are definitely starting to taper off, and I have made it more sore by painting and moving furniture. (Now diminished.) I wear a brace when I run. No falls yet. My wrist experience makes me completely dubious of the HEM thing. One thing that amazed me was the MRI write-up by the doctor who interprets MRIs. It explained not only which bones were affected, but also which ligaments were injured---luckily mine were only partial tears. All my pain now is exactly where this report says I have ligament damage. (I looked at the images for several hours, and had no idea what the doctor wrote about.) It made me think that some of the people on attackpoint who have lingering ankle injuries should look into MRIs. The funniest thing the doctor did was read the MRI report, then say, "Now we can look at the 2-week x-ray and see the break." He pulled it out and said, "It should be right...here." And it was. It was so subtle you would not have noticed it among all the other linear features, but it was there. I certainly don't want to exaggerate your injury. It might not take forever to heal. I've seen nasty, swollen, black and red and yellow ankles heal in a month or so. You might not have any structural problems. The doctor said my break was a significant wrist fracture, not minor at all. What is interesting is the bone chip that was visible by x-ray turned out to be a minor part of the problem. The real problems were diagnosed by MRI, and missed by x-ray. |

| Cristina: | Your tale reminds me of how often I read injured people's logs and think, "Geez, why don't they just rest!" Though of course I understand that everyone wants to get back to it as quickly as possible. Hopefully I will be slow enough and careful enough with my buildup that no one thinks that while reading my log. ;-) I seem to be getting better every day, though I know (and you've reiterated) that it will take a long time for the ligaments to gain back their strength. I don't think I have any actual tears (based on the level of function I had immediately after the sprain) but I will keep the MRI thing in mind if things don't continue to get better. |
