What is the key to setting a great sprint course...from a competitors perspective?
Have you checked out the IOF Competition rules? Available on line. There is a section that provides guidelines for the vaarious disciplines - i.e. type of "O" challenge each is supposed to present, etc.
I like lots of changes in direction and many route choice legs. Make me read the map constantly. I also like tricky gimmicks that will fool the people that are not reading the map into going to the wrong control or running uselessly down dead ends.
cheers jonny. A real long leg followed by many short controls is fun. Or visa versa so not much time to plan leg lenghts
Here are some old threads about designing sprint courses:

I've considered proposing that ken add a category to the discussion topics (General, News, Training & Technique, etc.): A category for discussion of Event Organization and Course Setting. SportIdent. That's obviously too long. Can anyone think of a short category name for all that stuff?
