| Jagge: | Playing Golf at Kytäjä?
I don't believe you went there by accident. It is the place of Jukola 1981 http://www.jukola.com/jukola/kartat/j1981_ju_1.jpg . . . and Jukola will be there again 2010. |

| bubo: | 1981 - that´s one of the really legendary Jukola Relays that will be mentioned for a long time still to come by the old men (like me) that were there!!
It started raining when we got off the ferry Saturday morning in Turku on our way to the meet site - and it didn´t stop until late Sunday afternoon when we arrived at the ferry terminal to go home! Actually the predicted schedule set by the organizers was way off and my club´s 2nd team had to DNF while in 100th place (out of 700-800) just to catch the ferry home in time! This year´s Jukola has been mentioned as one of the toughest for a long time (which of course adds some extra glory to the CSU result!) but the 1981 Jukola was definitely tougher weather-wise since the continuously pouring rain made the night a lot darker and the running a lot slower. |

| PG: | It really was by accident. I ended up spending Wednesday night in Hyvinkää, it was the closest place to Helsinki and Vaakkoi I could find a room (was Helsinki overrun by cardiologists?). Thursday morning I had a little time to kill before I was due at the airport, and looking at a map of recreation possibilities in Hyvinkää, I noticed one golf course there and another in the direction of Kytäjä. The one in the city didn't look too appealing.
The one in Kytäjä, on the other hand, looked stunning. I gather some forestry baron spent a ton of money. I looked around a bit, chatted up a couple folks to find out some more, and inquired about the chance of playing Monday, which was fine. Had I realized that I should not only go to Jagge for orienteering advice, but also golf advice, then I could have gone for a fine training/scouting run right there. Next time I'll ask, for sure. Oh, there seems to be a golf course right near where my B&B is, which I might have to check out in the morning. I don't suppose the Jukola has ever been there? |

| BorisGr: | Funny, sitting in a kebab place in Turku on Sunday afternoon, we were watching soccer on TV, and they had interviews of "random foreigners in the street", asking them about the World Cup. It struck me as odd (I am not kidding!) that two of them, interviewed separately, said they were cardiologists. |

| Jagge: | No, no Jukola. But the area is well known for nice o-terrains. Finnish night champs were there 1999 (if you are somfwhere near this place) no online maps as far as I know:
http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki.html?x=3... It's very nice place for orienteering. |

| Jagge: | What it comes to golf, I don't know much about it. But I like maps, here is a map of all (?) golf courses in Finland: http://www.golfpiste.com/kartta/
Menu Language -> English Places -> All courses If it works, you should be able to zoom and pan around Finland and see more info by clicking icons on the map. Enjoy! |
