When removing my ankle tape I sometimes pull off a layer of skin. Removing slowly and carefully helps reduce the frequency but it sometimes still happens. Does anybody know a way to prevent this?
I haven't used underwrap because the functioning of the ankle tape is to provide upward tension on the outside of the ankle. I figure underwrap will just slide down. Maybe this is wrong. ?
Remove the skin before applying the ankle tape.
You have a valid concern with the underwrap. Just go higher up on the lower calf with the tape than the underwrap. Hopefully, you won't peel any skin off your calves when you remove the tape later.
There is a spray that will prevent this. It can be purchased from a medical supply store. Plan #2, use a thin underwrap which will not slip.
Take a shower and soap up the ankle tape real well and then remove the tape. The adhesive will loosen up so the tape will come off. And the skin won't come off!
(ps this is storamoo's daughter, but I'm just writing what my dad said:) )
I just rip it off really fast, and never seem to lose any skin... I can't say the same thing about hair though.
(Hence, these days I shave my ankles - quite stylish...)
Thanks for the suggestions... except for the comments from Hannibal Cote and the burly mountain man Schwartzenfox.
I talked to a trainer here at school and they provided me with an official name, ie, it's called "tape burn." They gave me a roll of 3M "Transpore" tape to use as the highest anchor - its suppose to come off easier. I'll look around for the spray stuff too.
Got to go with Swampfox on this one !
