We are traveling to Fair Hill on Friday night and could use some space to sleep, about 1 hour (+/-) north of the venue. Would be arriving around 10pm.

Sorry guys, I live about 1.5 hours north of Fair Hill but as I have all of the food for the event and TRULY HATE to get up really early on weekends (I have to all week long). I got a room at the Howard Johnson's just off of I-95 in Newark for $46.89 the rate for travelers 55 and above. In case you are interested. Have stayed there before and it is acceptable and has lots of rooms as it is a conference center. I'm sure you could get a room if you so desired at this time.

Give me a call if you really want a place about an 1 hour out and haven't had any responses. I should be able to help.

Looking at where the original requesters are coming from, I interpret "North" to mean more like "North on I-95" than actually North. That means more like Philly or S NJ.
I live almost exactly 1hr due North of Fair Hill, but it would take nearly as long to get to my house from CT as it would to the much more conveniently-placed HoJos recommended above. I am just South of the Morgantown exit off the PA Turnpike.
If, however, my location works for someone, I can find some couches, cots, floor space, etc.

You rock orienteeringmom! What's on the menu for Saturday? I think I ate everything in sight at mile 13 two years ago!

Janet can fill you in on the post-event food. Here's the aid station menu:

Banana halves
Orange quarters
Cookies (fig newtons, choc chip, oreo)
Pretzels
Water
Gatorade
Defizzed Soda (Coke, Mt. Dew, Orange, Sprite)

In addition to the aid stations, there will be water-only at a few controls located approximately midway between the aid stations (these water-only stops are not listed on the control description sheet).

Thanks for the HoJo tip, great rate. Did it snow in Fair Hill area? NH had a wintry blizzard, about 7-8" wet snow last night thru midday today. Briefly looked at Phily weather today, said sunny, 55F - hard to believe as the various weather systems were said to affect much of the east. Hope to see bare ground Saturday.

We had heavy rain last night and this morning and temps in the 50's all day. The sun was out this afternoon and it was beautiful. All traces of snow from the weekend are long gone.

But the wind is picking up and the front is coming through and we'll have much colder temperatures in the next few days.

So yes, you will see bare ground. But it will be cold and unfortunately, things will probably be pretty muddy!

Like Sandy said cold weather is coming our way tonight and tomorrow and staying through the weekend. lows in the teens and highs in the mid thirty's but sunny to partly sunny so that will help. Mud will be the biggest problem under foot I'm thinking. As this event is a fundraiser for the senior team, Tom O has asked me to keep the food cost down as much as possible. So I worked on it and here is the menu for all of you to see.

Homemade Turkey noodle soup
Homemade veggie chili with rice
Hot dogs and fixins
pasta salad
chips
Homemade brownies
cookies and hostess pies

gatorade and ice tea
All hot drinks~ coffee tea hot choco from first thing in the morning to the very end of the day.

To keep the cost down I did not include any fruit or veggies so bring your own if you so desire them. See you all on saturday.

Fruit or veggies - who needs 'em??? That food lineup sounds great. Looking forward to an awesome event!

Seems to me like the mud may well be frozen.

Supposed to be freezing at night and upper 30's in the day.

Sandy:
It's likely the mud will be frozen when you start but probably not when you finish.
