Mounty:
My calendar tells me the super long world champs are approaching. Do I need to be booking a leave pass for that weekend, and digging out the free happy meal vouchers?

Jan 4, 2010 10:22 PM #
lazydave:
Sorry Mounty but like any good orienteering race the entries closed in August. Did you not send your cheque in before the entries closed?
Jan 4, 2010 11:49 PM #
Mounty:
I sent my cheque for 43 cents by carrier pigeon 9 months ago.

Damn bird must have got lost.
Jan 5, 2010 8:13 AM #
andyhill:
The bird made good and received the cheque on time.

What date would suit everyone best in Feb? Should we leave it as the 6th?
Jan 5, 2010 9:07 AM #
lazydave:
20th would be good, day before Soundwave.

But might be able to coincide the 6th with a trip to Newcastle for AROC course setting.
Jan 6, 2010 2:24 AM #
NSW Stinger:
Prong will be in Victoria that weekend
Jan 6, 2010 2:55 AM #
Mounty:
6th is good for me.
Jan 6, 2010 12:47 PM #
andyhill:
How bout 20th then if Prong can make it and Dave? Would that be good for you Mounty?

I'm fine for any weekend.
Jan 6, 2010 11:55 PM #
Mounty:
I can do the 6th or the 20th as long as start time is after kiddie baseball in the morning.

Which collections of maps are we going to traverse?
Jan 7, 2010 2:15 AM #
steveo:
im keen, 6 or 20 is good for me
Jan 7, 2010 8:57 AM #
andyhill:
what time is baseball? what time can start be?

Let's make it the 20th (unless anyone objects), it'll give me some time to join more maps.

So far:

Luna Park/Blues Point
Balls Head
Tunks Park
Artarmon Creek
West Chatswood
Blackman Park
Lane Cover River Park

Does anyone have anymore in the area? Blue Gum Creek, UTS Ku-Ring-Gai, Berry's Creek would be good.
Jan 7, 2010 9:21 AM #
Mounty:
Baseball finishes ~ 9:30-10.

If any of those maps are Big Foot maps, I can get the ocad files.
Jan 7, 2010 9:40 AM #
andyhill:
Actually Blue Gum Creek is Bigfoot and also Riverview would be good.
Jan 7, 2010 11:24 AM #
Mounty:
Yep, Ive got Blue Gum, Riverview & Butchers Block if that helps.
Jan 7, 2010 12:22 PM #
andyhill:
Thanks I'll take them all. That'll make 10 maps now. Probably shouldn't take any more as it'll be hard to beat in 2011.
Jan 11, 2010 12:06 AM #
Mounty:
If the mid-race feed-zone is at Macca's, where should we finish? Pub, someone's house,...?
Jan 11, 2010 8:49 AM #
andyhill:
Possibly Pub? We may go the opposite direction this year and finish at Blues Point.
Jan 11, 2010 11:34 AM #
glenn:
Suggestion for 2011: towards Manly.

If I am still in town then we can finish at Blues Point and go to mine for bbq/beverages. Just around the corner from the Commodore.
Jan 11, 2010 11:45 AM #
andyhill:
sounds good on both counts...
Jan 11, 2010 10:37 PM #
lazydave:
im excited....
Jan 11, 2010 11:02 PM #
Mounty:
All we need now is live tracking

Police helicopter?
Jan 12, 2010 5:08 AM #
NSW Stinger:
Problem is that's the Stromlo Running Festival weekend.
Perhaps we could hold it in Canberra on the sunday instead?
Jan 12, 2010 5:29 AM #
lazydave:
I'll be spending my $80 on maccas and beers :)
Jan 14, 2010 12:08 PM #
andyhill:
Ok it's on for the 20th Feb at ~11am as no-one from Sydney will be going to Stromlo. Starting at Gordon Station and finishing near North Sydney. Let me know who's def in as I will try to print large maps.

Last year took 5-6 hours so be prepared for a long day, although there are plenty of rest opportunities as no one gets left behind.
Jan 16, 2010 9:40 AM #
Mounty:
Yep, Im good to go.
Jan 17, 2010 6:46 AM #
steveo:

Jan 17, 2010 11:56 PM #

andyhill:
i got a soundwave ticket but at the moment prob selling it. matt's got a few that he's selling. we got tickets to the sideshow the night after. I dont think i can justify the $ seeing them 2 nights in a row after seeing them in sziget too.
Jan 18, 2010 11:40 PM #
lazydave:
sideshow!!! ahhh fuck i didnt know they were doing one
Jan 18, 2010 11:56 PM #
Mounty:
You're all making me feel old.
Jan 19, 2010 8:25 AM #
andyhill:
it's not too late for you to buy a ticket Mounty :)
Jan 19, 2010 8:45 AM #
Mounty:
It's about 10 years too late I think.
Jan 25, 2010 2:36 AM #
Shep:

I can't do a stop at maccas. New year reso is NO MACCAS. Beer is fine though
Jan 28, 2010 12:32 AM #
andyhill:
well that's your bad luck - that macca's wills sure taste good after 2-3hrs running!
Jan 28, 2010 12:34 AM #
andyhill:
Prong - I will be living in the Cross from tomorrow for at least the next week, so we should do alot of running if you're up for it.
Jan 28, 2010 12:37 AM #
lazydave:
welcome back andy.

Prong those quarter pounders are gonna taste so sweet....
Jan 28, 2010 1:05 AM #

Jan 28, 2010 2:23 AM #
andyhill:

Jan 28, 2010 2:50 AM #
peterprong:
That's still maccas Mounty. Oh well I'll just have to have 4L of slurpy again. It helped last year.
Shep - is that the wkend on the 6th? Otherwise ride sounds good.
Andy- the cross sounds cool. I'm still in the same place. I can show u all the other hills I have found.
Jan 28, 2010 7:18 PM #
BorisGr:
Since this appears to be the place to "register", I am pretty sure I'm in. Also, if you guys have some good run/o recommendations while I am in Sydney, let me know. All tips appreciated!
Jan 28, 2010 10:33 PM #
glenn:
Hey Boris,

A good place to start is Wednesday afternoons:

http://www.sydneysummerseries.com.au

You should catch the last few if you are in town Feb/March. Quite basic orienteering but great for seeing alot more of Sydney than many people see.
Jan 28, 2010 10:58 PM #
O-ing:
The Super Long sounds like a good warm up for this
Jan 29, 2010 3:30 AM #
BorisGr:
Thanks guys. I am definitely planning on getting to as many of the summer series and sprint series events as I can. Is there an easy way to get to most of these places by public transit? For example, Monday's Sprint Series event at Bicentennial Park? (I am sure I'll figure it out after a while, but I'd love a tip for this first one.)
Jan 29, 2010 3:39 AM #
glenn:
A few of the sydneysiders on here are regulars and could provide transport. You'll very quickly learn public transport isnt Sydney's forte. Its too spread out I think and about 40 years behind.

Anyone going to offer? I might be able but not sure.
Jan 29, 2010 3:54 AM #
lazydave:
Concord west train station is very close to Bicentennial Park.
Jan 29, 2010 5:09 AM #
BorisGr:
Thanks lazydave. I'll try that.
Jan 29, 2010 5:18 AM #
O-ing:

Jan 29, 2010 8:41 AM #
BorisGr:
Hmm, I downloaded a version of the sprint series calendar a couple of weeks ago, and it had Bicentennial Park listed for February 1st. Now I see that it is UTS Lindfield, as O-ing suggests. I guess there was a change, and I didn't notice. Thanks!
Jan 29, 2010 9:40 AM #
Shep:
hey Boris i don't wanna discourage you from running the super long world champs (i'd come down and run if it was the weekend before) but we got some good stuff going on in canberra that weekend (national training camp)... a night race friday, stromlo running festival orienteering race satdy morn (now you can enter JUST the orienteering ($25) and not the whole festival), techo training satdy arvo, and 2 techo sessions sunday. good preparation for the easter 3 days...
Jan 29, 2010 11:20 AM #
O-ing:
Hi Boris - if you still want to go to the UTS Lindfield Sprint there are trains from Sydney every 10-15 minutes to Roseville Station. The 565 bus ($2) goes from across the road to the west at 16.14, 16.50, 17.33 and 18.13. I know because I get off at the stop before UTS where we live. If you miss the bus its a 15 minute walk. You are welcome to drop in here after for a BBQ/shower. That applies to other APers reading this too! Email me for more details.
Feb 1, 2010 12:27 AM #
andyhill:
location for tonights sprint is UTS Lindfield. I will be running from Roseville Station (approx 15 minutes). my number is 0403373206 if you want to meet up around 530ish.
Feb 1, 2010 2:52 AM #
andyhill:
sorry ignore the last message, phone battery died - i'll still be at Roseville Station around 530ish
Feb 1, 2010 6:55 PM #
BorisGr:
First day at the uni ran late, so I didn't get out until after 6. Probably just as well, as the jetlag is vicious. Are any of you guys going to the Boronia Park summer series event tomorrow?
Feb 1, 2010 9:19 PM #
andyhill:
Yes I will be. I dont have a car at the moment so my dad is picking me up at West Ryde Train Station at 5.15pm. Will be getting a train from Central Station at 4.30pm. Let me know if you want a lift/meet me at either station.
Feb 2, 2010 12:45 AM #
BorisGr:
That sounds good. I'll aim to meet you at Central Station at 4.25. I have your number and will call/text if something comes up, unless your phone is still dead?
Feb 2, 2010 1:21 AM #
andyhill:
Cool - it'll be working tomorrow. Meet at entrance gates on lower level off Eddy Ave.
Feb 2, 2010 8:24 AM #

Yeah, still here. I'm watching the thread move in to the nervous ninety's with interest. Easy enough for Glenn to knock out singles in the 80's, but lets see how he goes in Shane Watson territory.
Feb 5, 2010 5:59 AM #
Shep:
only 10 to go now.

chris gayle would have got there weeks ago.
Feb 5, 2010 8:58 AM #

yeah, i'm a bit nervous. easy to knock the singles around like this than play and miss, which I tend to do.

We need new bungle for sure
Feb 8, 2010 5:31 AM #

Nice. What's the expected winning time?
Feb 15, 2010 12:15 AM #
andyhill:
Last year was 4hrs4minutes including rest in between sets plus warm up/down. Even though this year has 3 extra maps and more controls - i tried to make it shorter. I'm guessing it will be a similar time.
Feb 15, 2010 12:26 AM #
Mounty:
Higher control density than last year's? I dont think I've got the attention span. Last year's map at...
http://www.ar.attackpoint.org/discussionthread.jsp...

I like Andy's race report - "I really struggled from controls 60 to 80".

I have to run a 'science party' for 7 year olds on sunday. Any tips for impressive experiments that won't get me sued?

After saturday I should be able to do a good lactic acid demonstration.

Feb 15, 2010 10:59 PM #
andyhill:
For everyone that is coming on Saturday – please be at Ezy’s place (1178 Pacific Highway, Lindfield) from 10am for 10.30 start. There will be plenty of water on the course but bring $10 for Maccas and Slurpees if you want. We will be finishing at Glenn’s place in North Sydney for a BBQ. I will supply the beer!
Feb 16, 2010 12:26 AM #
Mounty:
I have to do a drop off at ninja class at 10:15 near Lindfield station. Will come straight from there.

Glenn, what's your address? The clever thing to do would be to drop a bag with beer drinking attire at your place on the way past on the friday evening commute.

I torched half a dozen tea-bags last night. Sensational.
Feb 16, 2010 12:50 AM #
Shep:

would the veterans of the super long faternity be taking camelbaks with them? (having not done a course with controls 60-80 to struggle through im unsure of the gentlemans agreement)

lazydave>>You can remove the question mark. I'm in.
Feb 16, 2010 2:43 AM #
andyhill:
I have planned the course so the majority of rest controls have taps so shouldn't be much need to bring water.
Feb 16, 2010 3:42 AM #
lazydave:
youre a thinker andy.

good stuff boris, i wasnt sure if shep had talked u into the canberra shenanigans.

Also im planning on a manly dam ride sun morning if im not too shagger from the the SLWC. All invited of course.
Feb 16, 2010 3:52 AM #
andyhill:
Are you gonna fit the ride in between sets at Soundwave? You're an animal!
Feb 16, 2010 4:07 AM #
lazydave:
yep :)

Just on that how are we gonna get there/back? im assuming we are all keen on a beer or five, is public transport an option? the website is shithouse
Feb 16, 2010 4:13 AM #
andyhill:
I've looked at all the options and train then bus is best. Jonnie did it last year - apparently 1.5 hrs from north shore.
Feb 16, 2010 4:19 AM #
lazydave:
not too bad.

i dont really mind getting there late, i couldnt a stuff about any band but FNM.
Feb 16, 2010 4:27 AM #
Mounty:
Don't plan on a Manly Dam ride. Warringah Council closed it on Friday permanently for 'safety reasons'. The sh*t has predictably hit the fan, and all sorts of hoo-haa being set up to get it overturned but bikes being asked to stay off to keep the moral high ground.
Feb 16, 2010 4:36 AM #
lazydave:
ah buggar. guess ill illegally ride some national park trails then. or do nothing.
Feb 16, 2010 4:45 AM #
andyhill:
dave - but if we paid $150 i'd want to get my moneys worth. Im sure there are some other decent bands that we dont know about.
Feb 16, 2010 5:42 AM #
glenn:
I'll probably be dropping Will off at Nanas place on Sun arvo and then driving to Eastern Creek, so I can fit a carload of people on the way back to the city afterwards.

My address is 38 Bank St, Nth Sydney, towards Waverton. You can leave your stuff on the front porch under a box I will leave there, I will be there from say 5:30 (I live down the back). I let my mother in law know so she doesnt think her house is being done over.

Mounty try youtubing 'cadbury science ad' or 'julius sumner miller'. Some classic stuff there. The only one I remember is the egg being sucked into the bottle.
Feb 16, 2010 6:40 AM #
lazydave:
i bags a spot in glenns car back.

Its a good point andy but its a shithouse festival, the boys can confirm that after last year!
Feb 16, 2010 9:43 AM #
glenn:
Confirmed.
Feb 16, 2010 10:18 AM #
Ezy:
I will be going to see other bands. My house mate, Niyant "Token" Narayan, is gonna give us a lift home after soundwaves as he will be at his folks placein Penrith that day. So for those stayig at my place after you already have a ride.
For those staying at mine after SLWC IM actually working after the race 4:30 - 8:30. Dr phil will be home.
No MTB for me sunday morn. I just descovered this afternoon the housing on my left Avid 5 leaver is corroded and leaking fluid.
Feb 16, 2010 10:50 AM #
Bert Bennett:
I'm definitely coming down. Hopefully I'll be fine to drive back after :)
Feb 16, 2010 11:03 AM #
andyhill:
Ezy - JV and I wanna get there by 130pm.

If most people are staying with Ezy's I assume that they'll go home with Token. If possible, can Jonnie and I pleaseget a lift back to North Sydney with you Glenn.

I'll get sausages and salad and rolls for the end.
Feb 18, 2010 9:38 AM #
Bert Bennett:
Ezy. I might need to stay at your place on Saturday night if I'm too stuffed to drive home. It's a 3-4 hour drive and it might be a bit dodgy. Probably won't have to but just in case.
Feb 18, 2010 9:42 AM #

Feb 18, 2010 11:02 PM #
lazydave:
how much do we owe you for the map?
Feb 18, 2010 11:31 PM #
andyhill:
Map is double sided A3 and majority will be on tracks (like Summer Series). Bring your own map bag. Printing and beer is on me.
Feb 19, 2010 5:46 AM #
Mounty:
Is Ezy's address hidden somewhere amongst the 2000 posts above?
Feb 19, 2010 5:49 AM #

Yes, take the first letter of each post. Somewhere in that there should be a message that guides you to his house.
Btw are you dropping stuff off this arvo?

tRicky - event information is only included in this thread as you can probably tell from the 2010 event. All you have to do to enter in 2011 is say you are going in the drop-down list in the AP event.

Check out the 2010 AP event description for what's its about

Last chance for entries for SLWC next Saturday. There's only a few of us comfirmed. This year is longer with 4 additional maps and nearly double the controls as last year. So that we wont be out all day, we wont be stopping between sprints but just slowing down for 5 controls. Let me know by Wed if you want in. We'll be starting at North Sydney Oval and finishing at Macquarie University.
