My calendar tells me the super long world champs are approaching. Do I need to be booking a leave pass for that weekend, and digging out the free happy meal vouchers?
Ok it's on for the 20th Feb at ~11am as no-one from Sydney will be going to Stromlo. Starting at Gordon Station and finishing near North Sydney. Let me know who's def in as I will try to print large maps.
Last year took 5-6 hours so be prepared for a long day, although there are plenty of rest opportunities as no one gets left behind.
i got a soundwave ticket but at the moment prob selling it. matt's got a few that he's selling. we got tickets to the sideshow the night after. I dont think i can justify the $ seeing them 2 nights in a row after seeing them in sziget too.
Ok 20 is best for me. I'll be in Vic the 6th. The defending champ has to me there to beat right?
I can't do a stop at maccas. New year reso is NO MACCAS. Beer is fine though
we might take roy down to sydney to meet uncle luke (he's getting home next week) soon, i'll bring the roadie if you and/or any of the real stingers (ezy, prong, glenn, steveo) are keen for a ride? i wanna have a crack at some of them hills you boys ride up.
That's still maccas Mounty. Oh well I'll just have to have 4L of slurpy again. It helped last year.
Shep - is that the wkend on the 6th? Otherwise ride sounds good.
Andy- the cross sounds cool. I'm still in the same place. I can show u all the other hills I have found.
Since this appears to be the place to "register", I am pretty sure I'm in. Also, if you guys have some good run/o recommendations while I am in Sydney, let me know. All tips appreciated!
Thanks guys. I am definitely planning on getting to as many of the summer series and sprint series events as I can. Is there an easy way to get to most of these places by public transit? For example, Monday's Sprint Series event at Bicentennial Park? (I am sure I'll figure it out after a while, but I'd love a tip for this first one.)
A few of the sydneysiders on here are regulars and could provide transport. You'll very quickly learn public transport isnt Sydney's forte. Its too spread out I think and about 40 years behind.
Anyone going to offer? I might be able but not sure.
OK I'm confused. Is there an event on at Bicentennial Park?

Hmm, I downloaded a version of the sprint series calendar a couple of weeks ago, and it had Bicentennial Park listed for February 1st. Now I see that it is UTS Lindfield, as O-ing suggests. I guess there was a change, and I didn't notice. Thanks!
hey Boris i don't wanna discourage you from running the super long world champs (i'd come down and run if it was the weekend before) but we got some good stuff going on in canberra that weekend (national training camp)... a night race friday, stromlo running festival orienteering race satdy morn (now you can enter JUST the orienteering ($25) and not the whole festival), techo training satdy arvo, and 2 techo sessions sunday. good preparation for the easter 3 days...
Hi Boris - if you still want to go to the UTS Lindfield Sprint there are trains from Sydney every 10-15 minutes to Roseville Station. The 565 bus ($2) goes from across the road to the west at 16.14, 16.50, 17.33 and 18.13. I know because I get off at the stop before UTS where we live. If you miss the bus its a 15 minute walk. You are welcome to drop in here after for a BBQ/shower. That applies to other APers reading this too! Email me for more details.
location for tonights sprint is UTS Lindfield. I will be running from Roseville Station (approx 15 minutes). my number is 0403373206 if you want to meet up around 530ish.
First day at the uni ran late, so I didn't get out until after 6. Probably just as well, as the jetlag is vicious. Are any of you guys going to the Boronia Park summer series event tomorrow?
Yes I will be. I dont have a car at the moment so my dad is picking me up at West Ryde Train Station at 5.15pm. Will be getting a train from Central Station at 4.30pm. Let me know if you want a lift/meet me at either station.
That sounds good. I'll aim to meet you at Central Station at 4.25. I have your number and will call/text if something comes up, unless your phone is still dead?
Yeah, still here. I'm watching the thread move in to the nervous ninety's with interest. Easy enough for Glenn to knock out singles in the 80's, but lets see how he goes in Shane Watson territory.
andy, you keen to bring boris down to the shire next weekend for the coast run or the horse? boris are you keen to hold hands with andy? we might head down to sydney, if we do i'd be keen for a long run...
I will ride in the morn instead, having company in the arvo so sticking close to home.
All correspondence must now go through this thread, emails, text messages, everything. into the 1000s by friday.
Map has been joined together but there is a big hole in the middle where Pottery Green and Berry's Creek would go. I'm gonna have to scan Google in. 9 maps altogeter now.
Last year was 4hrs4minutes including rest in between sets plus warm up/down. Even though this year has 3 extra maps and more controls - i tried to make it shorter. I'm guessing it will be a similar time.
Alright, I am back in town and have time to myself (at work). Finish is at mine, I will get the barbie going for a snag or two each plus refreshments. I will run as far my calf allows me, which may be 10 mins or may be the whole way, not sure.
I am looking forward to getting my watch back :)
For everyone that is coming on Saturday – please be at Ezy’s place (1178 Pacific Highway, Lindfield) from 10am for 10.30 start. There will be plenty of water on the course but bring $10 for Maccas and Slurpees if you want. We will be finishing at Glenn’s place in North Sydney for a BBQ. I will supply the beer!
I have to do a drop off at ninja class at 10:15 near Lindfield station. Will come straight from there.
Glenn, what's your address? The clever thing to do would be to drop a bag with beer drinking attire at your place on the way past on the friday evening commute.
I torched half a dozen tea-bags last night. Sensational.
would the veterans of the super long faternity be taking camelbaks with them? (having not done a course with controls 60-80 to struggle through im unsure of the gentlemans agreement)
Don't plan on a Manly Dam ride. Warringah Council closed it on Friday permanently for 'safety reasons'. The sh*t has predictably hit the fan, and all sorts of hoo-haa being set up to get it overturned but bikes being asked to stay off to keep the moral high ground.
I'll probably be dropping Will off at Nanas place on Sun arvo and then driving to Eastern Creek, so I can fit a carload of people on the way back to the city afterwards.
My address is 38 Bank St, Nth Sydney, towards Waverton. You can leave your stuff on the front porch under a box I will leave there, I will be there from say 5:30 (I live down the back). I let my mother in law know so she doesnt think her house is being done over.
Mounty try youtubing 'cadbury science ad' or 'julius sumner miller'. Some classic stuff there. The only one I remember is the egg being sucked into the bottle.
I will be going to see other bands. My house mate, Niyant "Token" Narayan, is gonna give us a lift home after soundwaves as he will be at his folks placein Penrith that day. So for those stayig at my place after you already have a ride.
For those staying at mine after SLWC IM actually working after the race 4:30 - 8:30. Dr phil will be home.
No MTB for me sunday morn. I just descovered this afternoon the housing on my left Avid 5 leaver is corroded and leaking fluid.
If most people are staying with Ezy's I assume that they'll go home with Token. If possible, can Jonnie and I pleaseget a lift back to North Sydney with you Glenn.
Who is staying at my place on friday night, anyone?
Who is staying at my place on Saturday night?
Who is staying at my place on Sunday night?
I am gettin a lift too the gig. We will leave my place at 11am. there are 3 seats left. first in first served.
Ezy. I might need to stay at your place on Saturday night if I'm too stuffed to drive home. It's a 3-4 hour drive and it might be a bit dodgy. Probably won't have to but just in case.
Yes, take the first letter of each post. Somewhere in that there should be a message that guides you to his house.
Btw are you dropping stuff off this arvo?
I've already dropped off my stuff. And if Margo mentions I came past on the way to work at 11am, her watch must be wrong. Couldn't have been that late to work.
4/1178 Pacific Hwy Pymble. There is an old 2 story sandstone building infront of my apartment building. walk between it and the diveway to the front door and buzz the #4 intercom. it looks preety clear on google earth street view
Haha - it'd be much easier if they started numbering the pacific highway from 1 in north sydney up to 100,000 or whatever instead of restarting every suburb!
Its the day of the big race and the event arena is buzzing with anticipation. There have been rumblings about the low grade coffee available in the upper north shore suburb of pymble. Weather is looking great and the beers are cooling in glenn's fridge!
Congratulations Andy and Mounty. Your true international superstars now that you've become World champions. I hope you don't change and can stay humble to your Sydney roots.
The event website link under AP Events takes me to this thread; the link above takes me back to AP events. How am I supposed to see what it's all about?
tRicky - event information is only included in this thread as you can probably tell from the 2010 event. All you have to do to enter in 2011 is say you are going in the drop-down list in the AP event.
Check out the 2010 AP event description for what's its about
Yep cricket ticket for me too!
Im going to see if a few other locals want to come. Just check with us before u get them.
Is that Glenn, Cramp man, Flacco, and Ezy?
I'm keen for SLWC and cricket sounds awesome. Not sure if i've missed it but what are the dates we're talking?
And are girls allowed? Apart from me of course....
We're gonna have the SLWC earlier next year. Prob first week of January as Prong is going o/s mid Jan. I've added 2 extra maps so we're up to 12 I think now.
Last chance for entries for SLWC next Saturday. There's only a few of us comfirmed. This year is longer with 4 additional maps and nearly double the controls as last year. So that we wont be out all day, we wont be stopping between sprints but just slowing down for 5 controls. Let me know by Wed if you want in. We'll be starting at North Sydney Oval and finishing at Macquarie University.
