Aside from shaking at the start, it was really quite comfortable. I had soaked all the way through my outer layer by the finish, so I was probably just a bit overdressed with a base layer, jersey, and windshirt. It would have been absolutely brutal without neopreme socks - we had a 6" deep crossing just 10 minutes in and a couple more later in the course.

I agree, it really was quite comfortable once we got out on the course. I used gore-tex socks which worked quite well.

Socks, huh! 'Fess up to your real secret. It had to be the fine wine.

I also used neoprene socks. Like ebuckley, I was slightly overdressed for most of the course, but never felt badly overheated although I frequently removed my hat and lowered my jacket zipper a bit.

The competitor who really deserves accolades is David Waller who slipped and did a full-body sprawl in that first creek. He ran back to his car, changed, then re-entered the race... where he immediately had to confront the same creek crossing in order to continue. What a trooper!

That is stout, indeed. He was smart to go back - trying to continue in that temp with wet clothes would have been not only brutal, but downright dangerous.

I glad he was ok. Fortunate that he was close to the start and had a 2nd set of clothes. That would have ended my run.
