Now in its 4th year, the Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Snowshoe Raid is a 3-hr rogaine-style event for teams of two. Top teams are very competitive and include national level orienteers, adventure racers and ultra runners, but there are also special categories for teens and parent-child teams who approach the race quite differently. So far 60 teams have signed up, with about 100 teams expected. We'd love to attract a few more U.S. teams 'cause we're not sure they can handle our Canadian snow! ;-)

The start/finish is at Horseshoe Resort near Barrie, Ontario - a little more than an hour north of the Toronto airport. It's a challenging and beautiful area for orienteering, and it's also a great weekend destination with nordic skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snow tubing and good restaurants right out the door. Last year some Mom & Dad competitors took advantage of the resort's babysitting services to sneak out for the Snowshoe Raid, then spent the rest of the weekend focusing on family fun. Snowshoe rentals can be arranged if needed.

As Bash mentioned this really is beautiful area for orienteering. It was first used for the first GLOF in 1994 including the USOF convention, Nor-Am Champs and Canadian Champs.

This race has been my fave event of the year for each of the last three years because of the great snowshoe conditions and orienteering challenge. I've raced this event solo (no longer an option) on a family team and then a competitive team (with Bash) and can tell you that all aspects of this race point to super duper fun.

As you will see on the website, not has Bob Miller and GHO quickly developed a large winter orienteering race but the race is now the largest snowshoe race in eastern Canada!

It would be pretty cool to become 'the' largest snowshoe race in Canada! That would be really good for our sport!

How many orienteers are needed for this to become the largest snowshoe race in the country?

The Yeti series in BC has events regularly attract 150-200 but I don't think individual races get much above 200.

So lets aim for a minimum of 125 teams of 2 to be safe. ;-)
