I really like the cover photo on the newest ONA. I think it's already one of my all time fave O' shots. It says "orienteering" perfectly.

Though note that careful analysis reveals the photo itself is not 100% perfect, and has been doctored. This may be splitting the G or even a mild form of baltering, and some could argue that this falls well within the realm of artistic license, and thus is fair game. I tend to go along with the latter type argument in this particular case, but you can be the judge. Or, you could be the Tom Carr if you like, but that would mean you would have to take up residence in Texas, and in mid-summer that is not advisable. (Not really advisable in the other parts of the year either.)

For one, study the grim, determined face of Boris, in complete racer mode. More often than not, when you look at Boris, it looks like he is sharing some private joke with himself. In this picture you are seeing a Boris you would never mess with. Well, maybe that is just the way Boris looked while he was racing, but maybe not. And then just about everyone at the Team Trials remarked on Boris's spectacular Flo-Jo Pink headband. It was risky, daring, and quite the fashion statement that some have been pleading for from orienteers for so long. In the photo the headband appears as a more lime-green affair.

That's obvious. But there are subtler details in the vegetation that give the thing away. Both in the foreground and in the upper part of the photo, you can see repeating bands of vegetation, if you look carefully enough. It's a little bit like finding Andy Dale--er, Waldo--in a photo, so you do have to look hard. The same effect is detectable along both sides of the photo.

But that's ok. The main thing is that the photo wasn't staged. It shows Boris's transformation, from the Boy from the Bronx who traveled over to Uppsala to stay for a while, and came back looking like this, a Savage Man of the Forest who practically destroyed everything that stood in his way in the Team Trials.

And that was with a crippled leg and a pseudo compass. Just imagine if he had been 100% and had been bearing a baseplate compass instead!

Anyway, it's a terrific photo, no matter how you slice and dice it.

Wha? A doctored photo in ONA? Thats crazy talk.

I don't have the issue here in front of me. Does the cover photo bear any resemblance to this photo?

Check out the ones before and after. I look skeptical...

This is a scandal!! Karl Rove has been at it again! Call up the New York Times!

I can't imagine the current administration producing a photo that would imply that forests are good for anything other than paper. This is the work of the liberal elite media.

I think an unholy alliance has been cemented between Carville and Rove. The WSJ and NYT have engaged in some backroom dealings. And we are all likely to feel adverse effects as a result.

Where will it end? Halliburton obviously is inolved somewhere.

I don't know where it will all end. But mortal men are already being effected. For instance, we have just learned the always estimable Eric Buckley's plans to attend the 1000 Day have been subverted and he will be forced to slave away at undisclosed employment opportunities within the greater St. Louis area during the absolute heat of the summer there, which is bad. Bad, bad, bad, in fact, when you throw in the 110% humidity. It's possible he won't even be allowed a cooling fan or breaks to sip ice water. It's looking much like a matrix, with all the tentacles interconnected. Little up little down.

'Halliburton', but a spoonerism (kinda) for 'Hurlinbalter'.

Of course! How'd I miss that? This conspiracy is broad and deep. Clearly Kew Gardens is a hotspot.

What? Huh? Someone say something? Helloooooo. Hmmm.... must be hearing things. Maybe it's the heat; I guess I'll just go back to sweating.

Yeah, this is the third time in a row that I've registered for the 1000-day only to have it nixed. It's hard to get away in the summer as a contractor because that's when all the regular employees go on vacation. Then again, this could be retaliation for bad-mouthing the current administration.

You said something adverse about Swampfox? Shame on you! (Or, maybe you didn't mean the 1000-Day administration..)

Speaking of jj and retouching photos, I made this image of jj by mistake once while trying to make triple exposure of him. I thought this was pretty cool - kind of like predator. Here is one of the three input photos. The 1000-day can get pretty risqe' at times.

That was back in the day when JJ was *really* thin. He's still a good bit out of the mall buffalo weight range these days, but there are rumors going around that he has been de-G'd. Hard to know for sure since the G is on temporary hiatus, with no reliable daily readings for a good while now.

Hopefully the daily pronouncement of G will be back soon, since there are hungry attack badgers that want to know, not to mention all the frolicksome G groupies out there.

WOw, can JJ walk upon the water too?

I don't have a scale, but last time I was at the home of somebody who did (couple of weeks ago?), and I availed myself of the opportunity, I think was at something like 1.07G. I may have peaked at something like 1.15G (due in part to the fluctuation of the G).

Yes, I can easily walk on water, but not this time of year. Any Canadian should know that.
