Cristina: It was fun and you'd recommend it?

Joe: absolutely. actually, I think this might be the one that pushes me away from the "sport". I figure with my first degree frostbite I can qualify for paralympic status at WTOC.

Bernard: Joe where was this 'exciting' event held?

#  Posted 2010-02-01 22:42:21
arcticQn: Love it Joe. This is pretty much exactly the reason I'm out of the sport too.
Learn to swim, come do XTERRA! :)

Joe: BB: south carolina
EN: when they allow swimmies.

Nielsen: I second Erin's point. Been there done with that shit. When I race Xterra I can confidently know that the only person that can jeopardize my race (AND the hundreds of hours of training and 1000's of dollars on travel and gear I've spent) is ME. Sorry to be negative, but I can relate to your experience with this type of AR.

Bernard: Even with my part-time exposure to AR, I have had the pleasure of 'interesting' CP's. Best one was a home made map that was just wrong. example: he had drawn in cabins that were not there. Then put an X thru them at the last minute. Pitty he did not tell us what the X meant.

Joe: some organizations do a tremendous job setting courses. and then there are those that just don't get navigation and try to set a course that "challenges" people. they ultimately set a course that has too many misplaced flags because they can't read a fn map. I have only a few more races this year that I am keen on doing and they are all put on by quality clubs.

bl: Is there not somewhere a "status board" for feedback so clueless RDs can be whipped into shape &/or find competent nav consultants?

Arriving with enthusiasm/energy/out-of-pocket expense to find oneself, as the event unfolds, so 'pissed off as to be unable to see straight' is most unfortunate....

#  Posted 2010-02-03 05:56:41
Joe: I am told there soon will be by the race series promoter.

I guess I will just have to find other adventures to occupy my time. how about a rogaine Bob?

#  Posted 2010-02-03 19:42:45
Bernard: Adventure Lounging?

#  Posted 2010-02-04 03:53:02
bl: I'm often thinking about when the next rogaine but suspect you'd find me slow:-). Did one with Sharon 6/08; uphill at night on one long leg, I could not keep up. I did note that both she & PG fall alot for reasons unclear - it might be linked to "winning drive" but a study is in order....

cmorse: I may be in the market for a Rogaine partner if I can find an event that doesn't conflict with other stuff. Getting back to 24 hour 'gaines is a priority for me this year now that I appear to have put 8+ years of chronic Lyme behind me.

kadley: Hate the RD who sluffs off misplaced controls with "it's part of the adventure!"
