bl: I'm impressed it's still there, Brighton? Used to go reasonably often when I lived in Newton. Bought "rejects" at half-price which seemed to be perfect. I'm better off, foot-wise, having 3 pairs of current running shoes, each a bit different - that way, in my case, even little foot/achilles complaints are infrequent.

iansmith: Yeah, the New Balance factory store is still up and running. I have never noticed any defects with the shoes I have purchased there. It's an excellent arrangement.

The idea of rotating pairs of shoes is an interesting one; I may pursue this, since I'm hoping to increase my mileage significantly relative to last year.

bl: I run a few times a wk with a woman who lives for running, has numerous prs of shoes (lotteries, purchases, awards) & nary a foot/ankle complaint. In my past, I'd run on the one pr of shoes I'd been meaning to replace for 4-6 mos, literally! Occ, it would cause a problem. Diane opened my eyes & now I try to do better, eg, have at least 2 prs for choosing. I can be cheap & have a hard time getting over this fact:-).

iansmith: I empathize with the desire to minimize spending on shoes, but it seems that if you get some fixed distance out of each pair of shoes, there wouldn't be any additional cost to rotating through the shoes compared to wearing them out sequentially. This sounds like a great idea, though it might clutter my closet...
