What is the best 100 oz hydration reservoir would be the best to buy for a Salomon XA 20 backpack?

Here's my pick: http://www.sunnysports.com/prod/PPSHN.html?ci_src=...

1) Classic and reliable no frills
2) Only $18 for the 3.0L, which is 100oz.
3) Way lighter than anything else (almost half the weight of camelbak 100 and other similar).

I'd ask what are you plans? If you need to fill in the field then you need a big mouth bladder of sorts - helps in cleaning as well. If you are just filling at home and using for a short(ish) activity then fox's recommendation works.

These even come with a little hook to keep the bladder hung in your pack and makes for easier hang to clean at the end.

I have used a camelback 3.0l for years for rogaines, adventure racing and mountain runs. Robust, big mouth for filling and when you put 3.0 litres of water in, the weight of the bladder itself is immaterial. Given the punishment they can take if you have a tumble, I go for strength over weight.

Do you think the CamelBack line is more durable than the Platypus offerings?

Yes. I have used both.

Having used Salomon packs for years, I've always found success with CamelBak 2 or 3 litre bladders. In some of the packs, we (I also work for Salomon) have fold back velcro at the top that hitches nicely to the top of the bladder, keeping it high in the pack even when it's near empty of fluid.

I just ordered the platypus because it is lighter, inexpensive, and durability is not my main concern. I was finally convinced when I noticed that the Platypus model has a hole to hook the top of the bladder to the pack, similar to the Camelback.
