hey mat- recently got a Forerunner 305 as a birthday present, but the last couple of times ive used it it's taken ages to 'locate satellites' - today i'd already been running 15 mins! Has this ever happened to you, is it normal?

ah cool!

yeah it's pretty normal - it depends where you are when you switch it on. Basically if you're near tall buildings then it's hard for the satellites to pinpoint your location due to reflection of signal needed to hit your receiver...
You also need to be stood still for a while for it to pick you up. If you switch it on and start to run, it can't pinpoint your location as you're moving...
I find it best to switch it on, put it on my car (massive metal amplifier) and wait for it to pick me up.

Usually takes between 1-2mins to get a signal, but sometimes acts up!! Bit of an arse when it's raining or you have to stand outside!

Rule of thumb, stand still for a bit and stand away from tall buildings!

I concur, although I find you can get a signal before setting off by leaving it on a window sill, or on your dashboard on the way to a race
