As many orienteers will be arriving in the Cranbrook / Kimberley area on or before June 30th, organizers have decided to add a fun bonus street O Trivia event: The Kimberley O Mazing Race. This mass start will be in the heart of Kimberley at Spokane and Ross. Start time 6:30. We're hoping the local Chocolate maker will be donating some caramel apples as prizes. Entry will by donation to be split between junior development and a local charity. We'll have a link on the NAOC website just so we can an idea of numbers. Lots of good eateries in the area for after the event.
This sounds really fun!
Too bad it's at the same time as the concluding activities of the Orienteering USA convention in Spokane -- specifically the junior-benefitting ice cream social. :-\
We held off planning an event for June 30th to avoid any conflicts with the Convention activities but then we started to see, through the dorm and camping bookings, that a lot of people were arriving that day...
Hopefully, with both events focusing on juniors that they'll now benefit in two ways. Either way, both events should be fun.
Are a lot of people staying until the 6th? Something like the street-O on the evening of the 5th might have been nice.
If you miss this one - or even if you don't - you'll want to come to the 2010 COC's in Ottawa where there will be a week-long city -O including visits to some of Canada's most important national treasures.
It's great that important orienteering meets are becoming more than a couple of runs in the woods and a banquet.
Anyway, good on ya, Jim. Too bad for me that my flight isn't due in to Cranbrook until 7 PM on the 30th.
No worries Gord. Downtown Kimberley is only 20 minutes from the airport. You can pick up controls.... Oh yeah, it's a trivia event.
Guyo, maybe there can also be something on the 6th for those still around for the IOF Event Advisors clinic. We have a good sprint map in town that is not being used for the NAOC events. This could be the clinic practicum.
Kimberly will be a fun place for a sprint. From my visit there, I recall some passages through buildings and other interesting aspects of the town layout. Should be fun!
