Ricka:
Men Long: 29 men under 6/K on 13.9K
W Long: 8 women under 7/K on 8.5K

men Middle: 22 men under 6/K on 6.2K
W Middle: 5 women under 7/K on 4.6K

Are these speeds unusually fast for WUOC?
Long seems really fast - faster than Middle!

Just curious, what were the courses/terrain like?

Rick, worldofo.com has lots of news, photos and maps from the WUOC. The relay courses are in the sinkhole terrain. See:

Perhaps the USA would do better if it fielded some of our women in that relay as well.

Ouch barb. I thought there was already an entire thread devoted to athlete-bashing. Oh wait, that was for WOC. Carry on for WUOC!

WUOC Long terrain was really fast. Although terrain was karstic, that was not the "hard karst" like you can find in Slovenia (check this map: http://force.rutka.net/gadget/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?a...). Depressions were big and terrain was not very detailed, so it was quite easy to navigate and it was easy to run fast.

I think WUOC got rid of most of the outsiders this year and it was quite an elite event.

About the USA team ... I was one of the few guys that was beaten a few times by Americans ... As I could see in the forrest, the team has a lot of potential - but they should start working really hard on the technique! This is what kept (at least the men team) behind.

Mm, oops, I didn't mean to dis the guys. I think they did really great just to be there, first of all, and run against such strong competition. My problem is that I get a bit over-excited when there are women competing alongside the men, and I'm also still on a high from the good WOC performances of our women!
