I heard this week that the Saturday & Sunday venues have been changed due to permit issues at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. New plan:

  • Sat, July 17 -- Day 1 Western States Championships -- Saylor Park (Woodland Park, CO)

  • Sun, July 18 -- Day 2 Western States Championships -- Manitou Park South (Woodland Park, CO)

  • Mon, July 19 (AM) -- Sprint -- The Nature Place (Florissant, CO)

  • Mon, July 19 (PM) -- US Night-O Championships -- Manitou Lake (Woodland Park, CO)

  • Tues, July 20 -- US Relay Championships -- Lake George (Lake George, CO)

  • Wed, July 21 -- US Ultra Long Championships -- Rainbow Falls (Woodland Park, CO)

Watch out for the barbed wire fences at Manitou in the dark! (If you see me in person, ask me how I know this..)

What a shame, I was really looking forward to running at Florissant again. While I enjoy Saylor Park and Manitou, Florissant is a favorite. And they even would have picked up a lot of revenue in day-use permit fees from orienteers, which should have been a win-win for everybody. Its a shame when park administrators just don't get it.

That's too bad; was any thought given to revising the FFB head dude/dudette with someone more reasonable instead?
