Discussion: Alternative to BikeHike or Gmaps Pedometer in the UK

Quirkey:
In the past I've been using BikeHike to record routes I've taken running / biking off road. The fantastic thing about it was the dual view of google map / aerial pic and OS map. So where info was not shown on one, it would usually be on the other.

Trouble is they've stopped letting you record your routes now (no idea why) which was actually the most important feature of all from my, not owning a gps, point of view.

Gmaps Pedomter still lets you record but obviously without as much info on the base mapping, it's harder to be accurate when you head for the hills.

So, anyone know an alternative i can use whilst i wait for the econmy to pick up so i can eventually afford a gps unit?

There is mapmyrun and mapmyride one for running one for biking.

Both of those are arguably better than Gmaps pedometer (height data etc) . But neither come close to the mapping on BIKEHIKE.

Aerial pics are a good help on most of these sites, but that's fine as long as the photography is of fairly good quality and there weren't clouds in the view on the day the pics were taken.
Interestingly, Gmaps does now have an OSM map view which has a few additional off road trails / path added which aren't on google's main maps.
