Early bird registration rates for the 3-day, 4-event Golden Leaf Orienteering Fest are in effect until the end of July. Race details are here:
http://dontgetlost.ca/index.php?option=com_content...

Note that GLOF registration will be limited to 200 participants per race.

GLOF takes place in Hamilton Ontario the weekend before the US Championships in Albany, NY (6 hours east of Hamilton).

Make GLOF and the US Champs an autumn holiday by also orienteering at NIAGARA FALLS! Yup, the Tuesday evening after GLOF our friends in the Buffalo Orienteering Club will be organizing an event at Goat Island between the American and Horseshoe Falls in Niagara Falls, NY.

4 days in a row not enough? Well the Rochester club has the answer as they a tentative event planned for the Wednesday evening 'on your way' to Albany. A great week of orienteering in the varied terrain in Hamilton's Dundas Valley and upstate NY!

And the US Team, organized by Linda Kohn, is tentatively planning a Team Fundraiser sprint (or two) at Saratoga Spa State Park 25 miles north of Albany on Friday after GLOF and before the US Champs!

The US Classic Champs website will be ready before the end of the month, with early registration through Sept. 11.

And, if it helps, I will be happy to do anything related to epunching for any event during the week. Bringing the whole raceday setup to GLOF and EMPO, so I can also provide the same to the events in between. My dream vacation!

Valerie, we may need your self keeping an eye on things but not your equipment for the Niagara Falls Sprints on Tuesday (which we haven't officially announced yet but between you and me is going to happen).

Sounds like a plan, David. I am happy to assist.

Looking forward to seeing you in person for a change, Valerie, instead of just on Attackpoint!

Why limited to 200? Environmental issues?

Perhaps a scare tactic - rush in droves to register and perhaps the more the merrier. It gets my attention.

Yeah, got my attention too... just registered!

Hammer will probably chime in shortly with the full scoop. As registrar, my knowledge is second hand, but I understand it's a combination of the host site's wishes and a tight parking situation. I've heard that the limit could probably be stretched a little to accommodate a few more people on the novice course. So it may not be exactly 200 but it'll be darned close.

Hammer:
Yes, as Bash has mentioned the reason for the 200 limit is a combination of limited parking (please car pool) and environmental reasons.

We met with Canterbury Hills again today and the 200 number was confirmed but we are discussing ways (if the limit is reached) to possibly allow more kids to participate on courses #1 and #2.

Details of the lodging will be available very soon but here is a sneak peek. 18 rooms of 4 @ ~$30/person per night. Distance from the door of your cabin to the finish line of all 4 races is <50m. Distance from the door to 3 of the 4 start lines is ~100m max.

An additional meal plan will also be available. Lodging and food reservations need to be booked by September 1st. All of these details and how to order lodging will be on our web site shortly.

Perhaps there is something amiss with the GLOF site currently, but it is desperately short on details. All that is available is pricing on the registration page with no other details, and it all seems pretty expensive! With the threat of early bird fees ending, one would think that a bit of information would be available or the deadline would slip until information posted.

Actually information on maps, terrain, schedule, categories, directions, etc have been on the site for two months as per regulations with Orienteering Ontario.

However, we have recently been made aware that in some browsers the drop down menu under the 'Information' tab on the GLOF page may not be working properly. If others have had this trouble please let us know (rth@dontgetlost.ca) and we will try to fix this ASAP.

Thank you to those that have contacted us regarding lodging. We are hoping to have the booking process online in the next few days. Canterbury Hills Camp does not take bookings directly so this will be undertaken by GHO instead. Prices for these hospitalities will be in the range listed on our web site.

Updates on course lengths and course planner tips and other information will be added to the web site in early September.

The GLOF web site no longer uses drop down menus which were causing problems with Safari and (gasp) the iPad. If others still have issues please let me know.
