Well done you. It sounds as if you've got a good base & some sensible target races. I'm now feeling very lazy.
What's the goal for the 10km Miss? I'm thinking my next goal will be a sub 90 half, but that's still a while away at the moment! Maybe I should do a 10km as an intermediate...
Funny thing is I don't feel like I've got a good base as I've been a bit sporadic, loads one week then nothing the next but it's obviously been of some use. Definite aim is under 58, ideally I'd like to go under 55 but that's probably for later in the year. Sub 90 half sounds like an amazing aim, I'd be interested to see what you can do in a 10km, it's quite a different race mentally.
Very impressive. When are the races you're aiming for?
And Becky, are you still going to be in New England in May? There's a nice 10k in Dedham the week after Easter.
I will most likely be here then, but should have a definite answer by mid January. Is it a hilly one? My only one thus far is Edinburgh which was very hilly, and while I don't mind (in fact, probably prefer) undulating, it would be good to see how quick I can run one where the hills aren't 500-1000m long!
I ran the
James Joyce 10k this year. It was mainly flat with a few little blips and I set a PB. It could be a good excuse to visit Boston,
everybody!
10k dressed as a love heart on 12th Feb, serious 10k on 13th March, half on 10th April and triathlon on 14th May. Also aiming to go orienteering at least once a month, entered the Ashridge regional event in Jan and the JK to get us started.
Whats the Tri ? I keen humming about trying one out.
It's the Eton supersprint (which is actually in and around Dorney Lake), chosen principally because it had the shortest swim, a few SuperChicks are doing the Bexhill sprint (with swim in the sea!) two weeks later so am considering that too!
Ooh, I'm doing a half on 10th April too - White Horse half marathon. Don't suppose it's the same one by any chance?
Swimming is the scary part of the triathlon by a long way, so good choice! I haven't yet braved that one - I really am very slow. I had great technique when I was 8, but not so much anymore.
It's be interesting to race on a bike - not sure I have what it takes to be aggressive enough to do well, but I guess I have some of the endurance. Maybe something to be considered for the future.
Lil, it is the White Horse, what kind of time are you aiming for?
Becks, agreed on the swimming, I got my 5000m badge as a kid but have regressed a long way since then. Not sure how the biking is going to go, my default mode is pottering into the lab and back which doesn't even count as exercise at the speed I go and most of my cycling experience is long distance touring rather than racing so will have to work on the racing mindset.
Well. I would really like to say I am aiming for 2 hours but I think that is going to be a big ask. Did 2.09 in October in Birmingham and White Horse is flatter and without queuing in the first mile! Also I crashed in last 3 miles in Birmingham so am hoping to avoid that. But have lost a lot of fitness over last month or so so will have to see how I get on... How about you, do you have target?
Sounds like it could be possible if your training goes well. I don't have much previous form to base my aim on, did the Coniston 14 in 2.35 three years ago off not quite enough training and had a massive crash in the last few miles (was saved by the fact that my dad ran back after he finished and encouraged me up the last big hill!). Am hoping with the benefit of more training and the course being flatter to get 2.20, possibly down to 2.15. I basically picked it for the low entry numbers as I had a massive shock the first time I did 10k down here and it took 5min to get over the start.
If you can do a 9km Street O in 54, then 10km in 58 should be a breeze! As they say over here..."Good jab!" (Typo fully intended).
Hmm, something went wrong in the export from sporttracks, total time should have been 58:08, still that was 9km stopping to write down postbox numbers fairly frequently so under 55 is looking pretty feasible.
