Assuming #203 is the rock outcrop you're referring to, I actually approached it from the south (after #53) and then headed to the road. I took the snowshoes off and ran the road most of the way to #52, figuring that would be quicker than the ups and downs of a straighter route through the woods.

Yes, I was doing these in the reverse order of you. I wanted to continue on the 53-203 trail to the south, but no one had gone beyond here, and I couldn't spot any yellow markers, so I followed a deer track instead.

After some tough stream crossings, I spied a non-competitor on skis who was blazing his own trail and going in my direction. He was going fast, but crashing into all sorts of things and falling all over the place. We soon parted ways once I got onto a track that had obviously been skied on my multiple orienteers.
