That is a good thing that you felt like you could go farther. You want to have that same feeling on each of your runs for the next few days until the pain is pretty much gone. If you feel like it is getting worse than just reduce your miles for the next day or so until it feels like it did on the best day. I know Portland has one of the best trail systems in the country so just go into a running/bike shop and they should be able to lead you into the right direction if you are having a difficult time finding a good trail. I try to run most of my runs on the dirt because it is so much easier on your legs. Couple more days and you should be back to normal.
