GuyO:
Announcing the 2011 Northeast Junior Training Camp at Blue Mountain Reservation, in Peekskill, NY, to be held on the second weekend in April.

This camp is open to all juniors who can complete a white course independently, and will focus on improving orienteering skills while promoting a fun social atmosphere. Lodging will be in bunkrooms at the Blue Mountain lodge, but space is limited to 15 girls and 15 boys. Food will be prepared by Janet Porter and the training will be organized by senior US Orienteering Team members and junior team coaches. Good times are guaranteed!

Arrival will be on the evening of Friday April 8th at 6:00pm. The camp will continue through the weekend, concluding on Sunday, April 10, at Harriman State Park. In a change from previous camps, we will vacate the lodge by late morning, and travel as a group to an orienteering meet on the Lake Welch and Rockhouse maps. The meet will be conducted by Hudson Valley Orienteering (HVO), starting at 11am. After course reviews, the camp will wrap up with lunch and departure directly from the park.

The cost is $85 which includes 2 nights of lodging, all meals, training, and transportation and entry to the HVO meet.

Register by emailing Janet Porter at djporter2@verizon.net. Please be sure to include the following information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Parental contact information (e-mail, phone#s)
- Course(s) you currently run
If this will be your first time at the camp, please also include a brief description of your orienteering experience (when you started, how often you orienteer, and anything else you want the coaches to know about you).

Registration deadline is March 15th, and all payments must be received by March 20th.

To check out how last year's training camp went, read the Orienteering North America (ONA) article in the May 2010 issue. Check the Camp page on Attackpoint for further updates; a comprehensive schedule will be posted in March.

For more information, email Janet Porter (djporter2 AT verizon.net), Samantha Saeger (skam17 AT yahoo.com), or Guy Olsen (GuyPOlsen AT AOL.com).

This is great! Might be early enough in the year that tree pollen allergy season has not kicked in yet. We have to seriously consider this one. It was a real bummer in the past when we had signed up only to have them not show because they are all having bad allergies!! Only concern: Spring skiing with lots of tasty bumps will be in full swing!!!!

Tree pollen is not a factor during spring skiing?

Bernard:
No! I would say because the skiing is further north and at a higher altitude so the trees are not blooming yet.

Glad to hear the Breton Crew will give it a try once again. Looking forward to see all of you.
