A very fine day, including perfect weather, presented by Daniel Schaublin and his HVO crew. I've added links to my maps from my training log.

Looks like fun! Are the results up someplace? Or at least, who won?
Oct 16, 2006 10:10 AM #
Charlie:
John Fredrickson won for men, Sam for women. King and queen were John Torrance and Sam, as were the trail run.

PG:
John, Flavius, Eddie, Vadim, then the next few were Clem, Jon Torrance, Alan Young, Ross, Jonathan Campbell but I'm not sure of the exact order. For the women, Samantha, Hillary, Pavlina. Best time was 3:21, difference between the first four was very little.

They used e-punching, but they are just getting going with the system and didn't have a printer on site. Keeping my fingers crossed that all the times and splits appear on the web sometime soon.

Who is Flavius?
Oct 16, 2006 1:04 PM #
j-man:
Flavius is like Mihai but is "Better, stronger, faster."

He and finishers 2-5 are members of the DVOA Jukola Team. JFred is welcome to join, too.

Nadim:
I second the fine event that HVO put on. They solicited input on what the racers wanted for the event and delivered.

Flavius is , of course romanian heritage. after few years busy working he found time this fall for orienteering. he posted good results on the sept 23-24 weekend A meet by Syracuse.

wow.. DVOA have a jukola team ?

and j-man .. also " younger"
Oct 16, 2006 2:06 PM #
j-man:
That's right Nick. BTW, you are a DVOA alum aren't you?

OK, I woke up out of my stupor of sleeping through the Highlander exhaustion and find you desparately asking for results.

Peter was almost on the money. Ross was seventh, Alan eighth and Jon Campbell ninth, me (DS) tenth. Oh yes, one might say I had seen the maps and a part of the controls, but I think the pre-race exhaustion balanced the insider knowledge to some degree. About to the same degree that I set out to rescue the Highlander because I like to run it.

We have a SI software glitch, with some people having the correct time and others 12 hours or 9 hours too much. No clear pattern. I remember a discussion about this on the Yahoo discuss list. In any case, we can circumvent it by pulling the times from each control box. There is still a bunch on the last map to be picked up.

We do have manual results, but they are at the Day of the meet director Ellen Stibler's house. Should have grabbed them, instead I have the registration list. I will see what I can do.

You probably just have the zero time for the event set wrong. Edit the settings for the event. I don't recall if you then have to "Evaluate SI Cards" or not to get it to recalculate the results.

Once it is all sorted and cleaned, the splits should be loaded directly to Attackpoint (we got to figure out this one, too).

The decision to use e-punch all the was made to day before the event. The e-punch system was stuck at US customs in Kentucky, it had to be liberated first.

Thanks 'pro! That was a sweet and gentle Highlander that was enjoyed by all.

And the epunching was the icing. Nice job!

It does sound like a Zero Time issue, or the date is incorrect under Event/Settings (would affect those who used an SI 6 card), and you should also have checked in Event/Settings that the event is under 12 hours.

If you want to do an Event/Backup and email the backup files to Sandy or me to look at, feel free to do so.

Jim, I let Alan know about the tip for SI.

yeap J-man , back in mid nineties . too bad you didn't have then the nice DVOA shirts that you have them now.
Oct 16, 2006 4:41 PM #
j-man:
No worries. I can get you one if you join. It is never too late. And you can stay a member of your primary Stars.

And BTW--we will have some really, really nice limited edition ones for the team. We could open up a spot for you...

Sounds like international business is going on there ...

sounds interesting. however if Ontario will put up a team, then I have to train and try to get selected for one team.

Hi all,
Results guy here.
Sorry for the delay in getting the results posted, something weird going on with the timing.
I'll have the overall rankings finished to-night and hopeful the splits adjusted for posting by tomorrow.
Bear with me a little longer.
Alan.

Here are the results of the Highlander XI. A nice late night job by Alan Young. Nobody knew what the source of the problem was, but they found a solution. Thank you.

Here are the splits of the Highlander XI.

I believe Jitka Hostomska is a woman (w21 not m21).

Yes, that's right.

Could someone please email me the splits file? The Man won't let me access it.
Oct 17, 2006 2:04 PM #
piutepro:
I know, the html file is for some reason enormously big. I had trouble to access it myself, on my old machine here.

I will ask Alan to convert the into a PDF or make a smaller html page.
Oct 17, 2006 2:09 PM #
j-man:
I don't even know if that is the problem. I can access the results file, but as for the splits:

See? Hacking! You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Bash:
An upload to Winsplits Online would be interesting (and possibly hacker-free).
Oct 17, 2006 7:13 PM #
piutepro:
The results file is much smaller and I generated it. The split file as posted is a 2.4 mb boulder. We send the results to Kenny, they might appear as soon as he has them in the format he needs.

As for hacking, I guess the FRS is a careful as West Point: All e-mails asking the West Pointers to join the Yahoo mailing list were bouncing as undeliverable, the mailer 'demon' message came back for each of them. Can't even invite people to an online party.

Can anyone inform me why I alone failed to have my splits recorded with my e-punch? Should I be concerned about a possible malfunction in the future?
Oct 23, 2006 2:41 PM #
piutepro:
I will find out if Alan, who runs the e-punching, sees what the problem is. Was it a loaner or your own e-punch?
Oct 24, 2006 2:47 AM #
AY:
Hi Jeff,
I checked the e-punch download station to-night that was used for the Highlander. Looks like you forgot to download after finishing.
I'll try re-constructing your splits over the weekend from the other stations. Be warned, we had another meet last weekend and some of the units could have had their memory cleared.
