PG: I don't know, it might just make it a set of Morse intervals. Possible definition #1 -- does more than planned, showing great determination. Possible definition #2 -- just another application of the Peter Principle (of management) to running: if you feel good, just keep doing more and pretty soon you'll feel bad. I think #2 may be the one, witness your training in the few days before the Billygoat.

cmorse: yeah, probably #2 - witness the downhill intervals weren't much better than the uphill - too hard going out, not enough for finish. Which of course is usually the case with most races - too fast too early. Maybe thats why sprints suit me - I can finish before I blow up... :-)

cmorse: hmmm, reviewing the pre- Billygoat training, I don't see any overtraining - did what I planned, didn't overextend. Problem w/ Billygoat (other than turning my brain off and trusting others on #7) was a total lack of training in the 2-3 hour range, which meant cramps setting around 15 or so - forcing slow pace - aka walk - on N side mountain...

PG: I'd say your workout on Friday before the Billygoat was way too strenuous.
And if you knew you weren't prepared for a 2 to 3 hour effort, there is a concept called pacing... but then I forget, you want to be up there running with the big dogs at the beginning, even if the eventual crash is that much more painful... :-)
