hkleaf: You posted a very good time today! Looks like your fitness level is getting better and better now. :)
Btw, did you ever the US dealer that sells those Ice Bugs shoes your size? They are probably much better alternatives to o-shoes as compared to soccer cleats.

cedarcreek: I found a pair of old stock in Hamilton (Ontario) last week, but they were very much running shoes. I wouldn't want to get them dirty, and the uppers looked pretty fragile. I've seen others that look more durable---more in the O'Shoe mold.

Regarding my time, it didn't feel fast when I did it, so...thanks.

cedarcreek: Another thing is that I've set courses there, and run there a lot more than you have, so I had been to a lot of those places before. On the other hand, Mike did take me to a few places I hadn't seen before, but not many.

mikeminium: Yeah, I picked up a pair of Ice Bugs in Hamilton, ON. I think they'll be good on wet, muddy trail runs... but they are definitely more a trail running shoe than an O' shoe. Can't wait to try them out. They were pretty expensive, though & the strong Canadian dollar didn't help...

Matthew, that was a good run. The results were somewhat surprising. I just wish we'd had some more people.

IndyBass: I would have *loved* to come out, guys, but the late notice killed any chance of rearranging my Sunday plans.

I say "notice", but in fact, I found out about the meet completely by accident, seeing it mentioned in Mike's AP training log on Saturday eve. I never saw an email about it. A posting to MW-ORIENT, at the very least, would have helped.

I hope to get out on a property this coming Sunday, either to the Germantown meet in Dayton, or some map check work on the new Yellowwood map.

And, yes, congrats on the good time, Matt. Your fitness work is paying off. I need to take inspiration from you and do a more consistent job myself. I think you and I were on par a couple of years ago, but I suspect you'd give me a sound thrashing on a course now. Keep it up!

hkleaf: I found a pair (older version?) from Campmor online for $49.95. Haven't had the chance to try them out on a trail run though. I don't know how they are traction wise compared to o-shoes, but the cushioning ought to be better than o-shoes and/or soccer shoes.

Will you be going to the "Pumpkin Hunt" at Germantown? I'm thinking about it, but don't know for sure yet.

mikeminium: Planning on the Pumpkin Hunt. By the way, wear bright colors and don't dress like a deer. Details in this week's OCIN email, but basically they have begun allowing limited bow hunting in the southern part of the park (by permit only). The park is attempting to contact all permit holders and advise them of the orienteering event, but I wouldn't recommend wearing buckskins! This should only affect the most advanced courses (red, green).
