It saves the planner lugging stakes around the area. I agree it is poor form, especially for a higher standard of event (Level B). I note SROC made the effort with stakes at Hutton Roof. Perhaps something to add to the quality table in Guideline A?

The only control I had problems punching was the finish, which was on a stake. Of course I had more problems finding the damn things...

Yup, there were stakes. Even the string course had stakes, but with the controls lying next to them on the ground. I had to stop my three year old from picking up a control and trying to clip it into the stake, although I couldn't give him a sensible answer to his inevitable "why?"...

I think the flags were on canes. Light to carry, but not very robust so quite a few kites ended up on the floor or buried in the mud.

Great idea having the string course ones on the ground so little people can reach. Definitely not so good for the "grown up" courses especially when they are covered with leaves and mud!
