Nice article. I often use time to estimate distance, and some competitors "feel" how far they need to go, which is probably some subconscious combination of estimating by eye, using time, and pace counting.

Yeah that article was written a few years ago. With those references and URL aside, the article seems to have held up OK over that time. It is probably 4 years old now since we've been through two different main sponsors on our AR team since then (EAS and now LSN).

How often do I pace count Boris? Depends on the race. In AR we do it all the time. In O very seldom. But I think that is because with time you (like Eric wrote) 'feel' how far you need to go.
