Discussion: Left hamstring

I've had a similar sequence of hamstring problems, also finding out that my left leg was significantly weaker than my right leg - mostly noticed it on leg curls, but also in 2010, my left leg often 'dragged' while jogging or orienteering. Perhaps due to weak muscles, I pulled the hamstring while playing on Florida beach in December, then stretched it again (new location) on ice in February in St. Louis.

Well, rest (from running) and exercise machines at Y are working for me. Only the leg curls strain the hamstring - I'm doing 15-20 pounds on left leg; less than 1/2 of right leg. Swimming and cycling don't bother it. If things go well, I'll orienteer twice weekend.

Good luck with rehab, PT, and recovery

Thanks! It was only a minor strain this time, and felt fine just a few days later. When this happened to me the first few times, I didn't realize that it was more than just muscle tiredness and tried to push through it, which lead to several weeks of aches/soreness. I'm more experienced, and hence wiser now! :)

I'm currently doing 10lbs on the hamstring curl machine (one-legged), and that's actually a personal record for me - I've never had strong hamstrings. Will try to work up to 20...That would be amazing.

Both of my left hamstrong injuries seem healed. Leg still weak of course but overall better. Leg held up well on two orienteering races, including a 2-hour run.

On prone leg curl today, my two sets on right leg were 45 & then 35 pounds. On left leg 20 & 15 (couldn't do 10 reps at 20; but second set of 15 reps at 15 was easy).
Reminder: 10 to 15 is a 50% increase - looking at other machines and weights, that's a lot! Good luck.
