Is this a first DC for you? Do you have a goal pace for first lap - I'm shooting for 2:10 on the single if all goes well.
Yes, and it's not even the double. I'm planning on running moderately competitively, but the goal is the marathon, so I'll just be running the single and slightly off pace at that. Under 2 would be great. I've run the Chubb proper in 1:49, but I'm not sure how much the Chinkapin adds.
There are a couple of add-ons to get the distance up to 15 and change. I can't remember the start exactly, but we started on the pavement at the Tyson side, and I think we did some sort of out and back, but it didn't take long (enough) before we hit the big paved hill up to the trailhead proper. Then on the Lone Elk end, we continued past the trail head on a less traveled trail along the side of the road past the Bird Sanctuary to the parking loop at the top of the hill overlooking 44. Then at Tyson you loop along the paved road to the Chinkapin turnoff. The finish comes right after the Chinkapin agony, where it dumps back into the campground.
