You were running on the javelin run up while people were throwing things?? Surely you'd bump into each other?

They weren't doing any run ups at the time, just warming up, I think they got into the proper throwing a bit later on, but we weren't going to take the risk of being impaled in the middle of the track.

Couldn't you have run on the track? Surely no javelins would land there

It was already crowded with people doing fast intervals and bend running, and while the space nxt to us was free, we took it.
