I will be in the Copenhagen area on Friday and Saturday May 6-7, and was hoping to experience fabled Scandinavian orienteering by attending an event. I have searched the web for a good while now (and liberally used Google translate :-), but have failed to find anything. I have found that there *is* a big MTBO event in Northern Denmark (far from Copenhagen) on May 7 (and apparently an associated kayak orienteering event (!) on May 6?) , but can't find anything else.
I will have a car, and am quite willing to drive a reasonable distance from Copenhagen to attend.
Please forgive me for bothering everyone, but if there is anyone who "knows the ropes" for finding this information, I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks in advance!
Dennis
For events in Sweden search here:
http://eventor.orientering.se/EventsNature and wildlife restrictions make it more or less impossible to organise orienteering events in the southernmost part of Sweden in early May. You need to drive a bit to find competitions in Sweden on that weekend.
The closest one on May 7 is Kinnaströms middle distance near Borås about 280 km from Copenhagen:
http://eventor.orientering.se/Events/Show/1195there is also a long distance in Kalmar but the drive there is a little bit longer:

You could try to see if there's anything near across the border to sweden:

Sweden will probably also be a much better bet for finding some "fabled Scandinavian orienteering". My first Danish acquaintances were quick to explain that while Denmark is definitely Scandinavian, their terrain isn't.
Yes, thanks to everyone for the information about Sweden. I had found that page, but had found a curious lack of meets near Copenhagen/Malmo in early May--now I know why.
After my fruitless search for "obvious" events, I guess I was maybe hoping that someone would say "Well, there's a local event, not shown on the large national websites but instead found on the (local club) website, that is only (less than 100?) km from Copenhagen."
Perhaps a terrain run on a good near map (which?) or join a local club practice (any?) might be more practical than a hard-to-find/get-to meet?
There is a local event outside Copenhagen May 7. It's a race for youngsters but have courses for "drivers" see

Yes, the local "Youth Cup" is probably a lot more convenient than any race in Sweden. Especially when you need to pay european fuel prices + the hefty fee to cross the Öresund-bridge. Note that there is no official resultatlist for "Chaufførbaner", if you care about that kind of thing. Probably because they don't want older people to post better times than the kids on the same courses. And the terrain won't be interesting even by Danish standards it seems.
