If you want to go barefoot running but not be worried about glass/poo, you could try a pair of Vibram Five Fingers shoes - the KSO Trainers are probably the most appropriate, but at ca. £100 they're not cheap. To get best VFM from them you should wear them to the office as well. It's always fun to put people off by wiggling your toes at them in the middle of a serious discussion about corporate finances.

I usually wear a skirt to work. They think I'm a bit strange already, if I turned up in a pair of those they'd think I'd totally flipped. They are interesting in a "my trainers are madder than yours" sort of way.
The innov8 Baregrip sounded interesting, but not with a 1 year wearing in period, I've usually ruined the forefoot by then.
