Hammer:
The 10th annual Raid the Hammer (7th year as a team race) took place last weekend in Dundas, Ontario. 200 participants raced through 25km of trail running, orienteering and road running - climbing the Niagara Escarpment several times.

The race attracted members from several of Canada's top
adventure racing teams including Supplierpipeline (4th at this year's Primal Quest). Many top orienteers also took part including former North American Champions, Nick Duca and Mark Adams. Also in attendance was double Olympic medallist from Athens, Adam van Koeverden. van Koeverden won gold and silver in kayaking in Athens and teamed up with Liza Pye (Simon River Sports AR team), and Simon Donato to take 4th place in coed. Stay tuned for an interview with Adam on what he thought about the race.

The race report includes a great interview with Bob Miller, Canada's top adventure racer. Earlier this autumn Bob squeezed the NAOC long champs into his busy racing and training schedule.

Next year's adventure run dates:

Giant's Rib Raid
Sat. Apr. 7th (Milton, ON) including 2006 NAOC terrain

Raid the Hammer
Sun. Nov. 11th (Hamilton, ON) NEW map
(Yes a portion of next year's race will be on a new map never used before for orienteering)

NEW for 2007 is a 10K team race. Perfect for juniors and a great introduction to team orienteering.

See you then. Info at: www.dontgetlost.ca/raid

Adam's team with Slice and Zoolander was 4th coed (only a few minutes out of third). I was impressed with Adam's half marathon running time.

Anyway, who will we bring in next? Well if MLS can bring in Beckham to increase interest and marketing then maybe we should be looking at an orienteer from England for the same reasons.
