The IOF Map Commission released the ISSOM 2007 on 15 November 2006. It's available here, and there is also a list of changes (pdf).

Kell Sonnichsen's sprint page (now in English) is worth a look, too. Check it out at:

I can't remember seeing a US orienteering map where a park bench was *not* represented. Does the 2x2 rule apply to regular o-maps also?

I often do not map park benches on ISSOM maps that I make. Many parks have lots of benches and the symbol is too large to fit all of them on the map. And there is no scattered benches symbol :)

We're working on the maps for OCIN's New Year's Eve sprints (the last sanctioned "A" meet in 2006 and the kickoff to the 2007 Sprint Series). I'm hoping to incorporate the ISSOM 2007 changes into these maps.

I've made six park maps, two of which were to ISSOM specs. I put benches on the first one I made and then decided to stop doing that. Seemed to clutter the map and it's not something that I'd ever use for a control location.

One notable exception: there's a stone bench in Forest Park just sitting all by itself in the middle of a field. It's such an obvious and isolated landmark, I felt it should be on the map. I used the man-made X rather than have a separate symbol for the bench.
