This event will be awesome....

The Minnesota Orienteering Club invites you to a 6-hour long distance Rogaine (Rugged Outdoor Group Activity Involving Navigation and Endurance) event on Saturday, August 13th in the Bayfield County Forest, near Cable, WI. Hikers, runners, orienteers, adventure racers, trail runners, ultra runners, families - everyone is welcome. Come test your endurance and navigation skills. Go at your own speed and choose your own route. Teams will be given a detailed map and have 6 hours to find as many of the marked control points as possible.

WHERE: North End ski Hut, Randysek Rd, about 2 miles south of Cable, WI. The event will be held in approximately 20 square kilometers of the county forest to the south of Cable. Much of the area was used for the 2004 US Orienteering championship; it is mostly classic kettle moraine terrain with open forest. Directions: Take Randysek Rd south from downtown Cable about 2 miles to the North End Ski Hut.

WHEN: There is a mandatory meeting at 9:00 AM, Saturday, August 13th at the start location. Maps will be handed out at the meeting. All classes and teams will have a mass start at 9:30 AM. Teams must finish by 3:30 PM, with penalty points for every minute after. The course closes at 4:00 PM. There will be an awards ceremony at 3:45 PM.

WHAT: Teams of 2 or more persons looking for approximately 25-30 controls marked on a 1:10,000 scale orienteering map and a modified USGS map. Single persons may enter and will be teamed up on the day with other single persons of similar goals/abilities. There is no set course; controls may be visited in any order. GPS units are not allowed.

WHY: Experience the fun of hiking and navigating in near wilderness setting, plus awards for the highest scoring teams in three team categories: Co-ed, Open, and Masters (all team over age 40).

COST: Registration by August 6th: $22 per person, $20 for MNOC members, and $16 for under 21. Please register online for this event. A $5 late fee applies after August 6th. More details at http://www.mnoc.org/news/2011/rogaine/
