from the IOF website

"The organiser of the World Orienteering Championships 2015, either Great Britain or Sweden, will be appointed by the IOF Council on Thursday 18 August. There will be a press conference at 14:45 at Le Revard to announce the organiser"

Suspect it will be Scotland
Both are outstanding bids with massive government support. Problem is that Scotland's funding is tied to 2015 while Sweden has a bit more flexibility

It is a tough position for iof and will be interesting to see the decision

I haven't heard: Will the WOC replace the Six-Day for that year? It's hard to see Scotland putting on both events in the same year.

The funding situation in the UK is very tight at the moment, 2015 cash is promised but if we don't get it I can't see us bidding again any time soon. If we get it, the 6-day will be on Speyside and incorporate WOC (or vice versa, depending how you look at it). WOC would be a non-starter without the income from 3000+ people at the 6-day (and before you ask, Vladimir, the cheap labour too).

I think / hope Sweden gets it for 2016.

Why not? That is exactly what happened in 1999.

Ah 6-day 1999. (edit: @Dallaschyle, day-6)

"You have one hour to hang the controls for 5000 people. There are no tapes because that would have distracted the WOC'ers. This is the most technical area we could find. I'll check what I can, but please try to get them in the right place yourself. Go"

And we got them all in the right place. I'm very proud of that.

What does? Hosting WOC? ;-)

A little acknowledgement of the Swedish bid - it was superb and I truly hope they will be able to host the event they have proposed.

And Brazil was awarded the 2014 World Masters. This is the first time a major IOF event is held in South America. The host city will be Porto Alegre.

I am pretty confident the Swedes will get it the year after - with no other bids forthcoming as yet, it makes sense.

2016 Sweden
2017 Denmark
