Booking a room at the meet hotel (Red Roof Inn) at the discounted rate has been a giant headache.

The central reservations line (what you get if you call the hotel and press 2 for reservations) claims that the discount is only for Thursday and Friday, not Saturday.

Calling the hotel itself (pressing 4 to get a representative as suggested on the meet website) results in them finding the block of rooms, but they said there is no discount associated with it and maybe we were past the date. I told her it was supposed to be good until the 22nd.

Right now I have a room booked at the higher regular rate, and they are supposed to call back tomorrow when the general manager is in, but it would be nice for others trying to make reservations if someone could figure out what is going on...

It's fixed now, but I would advise anyone still thinking of making a reservation to call early in case you encounter issues.

The hotel discount/reservation thing has been a mess. The hotels can't seem to figure out what the correct process is, or have a consistent system so everyone who works there can look up the correct discounts. The discount should definitely be good for Saturday night. If you can't get them to give you the correct discount, we will contact them again to try and set everything straight. Larry has been in touch with them a number of times now though trying to clear everything up.

I did finally get it straightened out, thanks. It took 5 phone calls over 3 days. I agree that they (hotel) do not seem to be organized at all.

Worked for me yesterday, but it took them about 15 minutes on the phone to get it figured out.

Don't forget, there is also a Motel 6 in nearby Danvers.

I had tried that before calling back to the Red Roof Inn. The Motel 6, according to their website, only has rooms with a single King Bed left. So if you are traveling with more than one other person, you can't stay there unless you want to sleep on the floor. Everything else in the area is expensive, probably due to proximity to the airport?

Seems like the more times they go through this, the longer it takes them each time. Sort of an inverse learning curve.

Well, that's one option...

Ha, Emily, Molly and I once shared a king bed. It was only really bad for Emily who was in the middle and thus had no control of the blankets!

The three of you in one tiny king sized bed? what did you do with the other 2/3rds of the space?

Those were the days! Now Greg takes up more space than Emily and Molly combined ;)

Just made a reservation at Motel 6 with 2 Queen non smoking - all online. There seem to be rooms still available.

That's pretty exciting, cavadura. I didn't know you were coming.

That's weird, a lot more choices show up for the Motel 6 now. I wish they would have last week when I needed them. They are all cheaper than before too. Oh well.

You can still book there -- no charge to cancel your other hotel reservation in advance. But (of course) if you're going to do that, make your new reservation before canceling the first ...
