Thanks to a sponsorship from Icebug shoes, every participant will be receiving a CSU/Icebug buff in their registration packet. Extra buffs will also be on sale at the meet for $7.
See
here for ways to wear a buff.
The design can be found
here
Icebug will also be at the event with the Icebug trailer. The will have product demos and knowledgeable staff to help you out with your shoe choice.
Nice, how much extra would it cost to have some shipped overseas?
Or handed off to a Bostonion who could bring them overseas? ;-)
It's probably expensive to ship, or at least a pain to deal with customs.
I'm sure we can find someone to bring a few over to you. There are a couple of Swedes from Gothenburg and Borlänge registered, maybe they can bring some back and get them to you.
Of course Icebug is a Swedish company, so I assume you can get Icebug buffs in Sweden, In fact we were given similar buffs as we finished the 5th day at Oringen a few years ago. They are very durable and we have gotten good use of them.
But those wouldn't have the CSU logo on them. :-)
Nice freebie!
Love my IceBugs shoes and glad to spread the word in a fun way with the Buff. Happy to show off CSU, too, of course. Great freebie.
Looks like a fun freebie! Good work on the sponsorship!
Was this intended just for US Champs? Or is this part of a longer partnership with CSU? (There's no event-specific stuff on the buff, so it could be for longer...)
Are they interested in sponsoring other events and/or clubs?
So a "buff" is a tube-like knitted hat? I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough!. :-)
BTW, that one link seems to indicate that Buff is also a brand; so did Icebug make these, or did Buff?
Buffs hit the mainstream when they were used to identify teams during every season of Survivor. Many of the female contestants would use them as tube tops, too.
Buff is a brand, and they probably own the trademark. Generically they are "tubular bandanas". Once they became popular many people started making them under similar names.
Neither Buff, nor Icebug made these. I did the design and contracted to have them made with CSU/Icebug graphics on them. They are approved and funded by Icebug USA.
Back to my earlier question... how did you go about acquiring sponsorship with Icebug?
Gary Richter, from Icebug, has been coming to some orienteering meets (like North Americans and the Pawtuckaway Camping Weekend) promoting Icebug shoes and just in general trying to get some exposure in the community. I sent him an email, hoping that he'd be interested in sponsoring the event because I like the shoes and I liked him, and I hoped it would be a good match.
I also know that he has supported individual orienteers in North America with free shoes from time to time (like me, for one) and I think that he'd be open to other kinds of sponsorship.
I can't speak for the whole club, but I would think a longer term partnership with Icebug would be fantastic... clubs in the US don't yet seem to get sponosorship, but it would be a good place to start. Also it would give Pink Socks some new challenges when incorporating company logos into orienteering jersey designs :)
