Dow goes wide right to 6. Gotta love live tracking.

So when they grey out I presume that's a loss of signal?
Oct 2, 2011 1:36 AM #
eddie:
Interesting - almost everyone drops signal on the way to 1, but no problems after that. Cell shadow?

I was going to ask if the leaderboard is showing anything useful, but I think I figured it out. it seems to be ordered from north to south.

Rob and Shep just split left and right on 6. Looked like Shep stayed on the higher trail farther left, but they came together just before the control. NIce being able to rotate the map for each leg.

Looks like you can sort on any of the columns. The first one as you said appears to be N-S. Try min/km :) - read fast. The name col appears to be sorted by start order, not name. Nice to have mins from first start there though.

Yeah, they can see the course before they go out on it. Isn't that an unfair advantage to those with fancy interweb thingys on their iPhone?, or is Yackandandah out of the 3G/4G area?

You can also already view the replay-as-mass-start for a better idea of what's going on. very close between Rob P and Shep until the end.

Whoops - Rob ended up at 17 on the way to 21

So in the mass start it looks like there is data for everyone all the way to #1 despite the dropouts live. I guess the data was stored onboard and then transmitted when cell contact was re-established?

Has the women's race started? I haven't been able to connect to it, and now I've lost the men's and can't re-connect (although the men's race is over). All I get now is half a blue bar and the words "Adding time control panel..."

Be good if some results were on the Carnival Website.

Hi Milo
All elites were in the quarantine area (model map + start) before the first start. Well away from the enormous screen at the Finish showing everyone's mistakes.

Eoin, can I ask how much the tractrac tracking cost for this event? How many units did you guys rent (I assume they are rented)? The tractrac site has info on requesting a quote, but I'd be interested in hearing what your total cost was, including shipping and peripheral hardware/labor and any "lessons learned" you might have.

No idea how much it cost: I'm just a competitor. But it was fun to watch.

I think the screen on a truck at the event cost between $3 and $4k for two days. I watched it being pulled out to the road by an earthmover late on the second day. Not sure about the tracking devices.

For a smaller led screen you are looking at $3-4000/day. For the larger screens like WOC this year had, that are a built into a 53' trailer, its closer to $20-30000/day. Also factor in gensets to power them, a production trailer to provide a signal, and transportation, and it can get expensive very fast.

The pictures here give you an idea of what we used from ProVideo. This was around $5K for the two days including power, a/v mixing and production equipment.
We found them very helpful and willing to help orienteering, including driving their truck into wet and muddy paddocks!
Quotes from other companies were more expensive.
