The final 3 Canada Cup races of the year were held this past weekend as part of the Ottawa O Fest. The means that the inaugural season of the Canada Cup Elite Series has wrapped up. The top male and female in the Elite Series are each receiving $300 cash and the top 3 men and women are receiving a pair of VenoTrain sport compression socks donated by Bauerfeind Canada (valued at $100/pair). And the top club wins bragging rights! After 17 Canada Cup elite series races this year, the top 3 women are: Louise Oram (GVOC), Carol Ross (ONB) and Katherine Scheck (YOA). The top 3 men are Will Critchley (EOOC), Robbie Anderson (OOC) and Magnus Johansson (GVOC). The top club is the Greater Vancouver Orienteering Club (GVOC). A big thanks to all the event organizers and competitors.
And a huge thanks to Bauerfeind Canada for donating 6 pairs of VenoTrain sport compression socks. Bauerfeind is one of the world's leading manufacturers of medical aids. They develop and produce supports/braces, orthoses, medical compression stockings and orthopedic orthoses. Their highly effective products have won many awards for function and design. Details about the VenoTrain socks are
here.
The final standings are here and the scoring details are here.

Will C said, "“The first year of the Canada Cup elite series gave me a new motivation to hit the big events across Canada”

Nice to see that the series achieved, at least partially, one of the desired effects. Our hope is that more athletes will make the effort to travel to races and that we can get more races with deeper fields in the 2012 Canada Cup Elite Series.

Another desired effect is that race organizers will consider putting on high quality events and apply to have their races be part of the CCES so that they can attract more athletes to participate. Hint! Hint!

Not only did Will hit the big events ... but he ran awesome all season long. A well deserved win - he crushed us in the series! Well done to Louise too.

Will crushed all but three club point totals too. Since one of those three clubs was his own only gvoc and ooc beat him. ;-)

So great to see this series and a refreshing change to get rid of the term "A" meet and replace with Canada Cup. I really like the focus on the elite.

I'd like to see more M and W20 racing on the same sprint (and possibly middle) courses as M and W Elite so the juniors can possibly score points in the series as well. That would increase the depth at some races too and increase the points depth.

Overall an awesome debut for the series!

I tried to stack the deck here in Manitoba by talking all of the club members into running Elite. But alas, few followed my lead. I guess asking everyone to run a 14km course is a bit much, but I tried.

Next year!
