Just under 4 weeks to go and this race is well on its way to another sell out. Only 25 team spots remain with the regular entry fee deadline ending later this week. Team MBR/Dontgetlost.ca (winner's of the 2011 Trifecta Cup hosted by CNYO) test ran the course yesterday in preparation for the World Adventure Racing Champs in Tasmania. This is what Tim and Audrey said about the course:

"The woods are so open and runnable that it makes the off-trail
sections a lot of fun. Some of the trail sections are going to be
tricky though with a lot of strategy."

This year's course offers a good mix of trail running sections and some of the nicest orienteering southern Ontario has to offer. Orienteers certainly won't want to miss this race and we'll explain a little more about why that is the case in a few weeks.

What governs your 100 team limit? Is it self-imposed for organizational reasons, or is there an environmental impact concern from the land managers, or something else?
Oct 19, 2011 1:01 AM #
Bash:
Exactly - numbers are restricted by the conservation authority that manages the land.

Hammer:
The conservation authority and GHO worked together to set the 300 participant limit. Last year we had 108 teams when the race was in a different location.

Bob Miller, one of Canada's top adventure racers is off to the World AR Champs tomorrow but he still managed to get in some last minute training yesterday and test ran this year's Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Raid the Hammer with his full expedition AR pack. He loved the route choice, open woods and route choice.

Bob is also the race director for the Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Snowshoe Raid and co-course planner (with Bash) for Canada's top 24 hour adventure race the Wilderness Traverse. Check out the FB page for next year's WT race course planning. Sweet, sweet terrain.

Yes a great field despite many top adventure racers racing at the AR World Champs.

dlevine:
Stop. You're intimidating "the rest of us".

Start giving course hints, instead. To even the field, I propose that no one named above be given the hints...

Add dlevine. Most Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Adventure Run finishes by an American! ;-)

OK some hints (this will be on the web site soon)

1) 25-27K depending on the route you take and the matrix strategy.
2) Over 1200m of climb (I stopped counting when I got that high)
3) 500m of road running.
4) 1km of XC-running
5) 500m of rail trail running
6) matrix section where teams can split up but this time MUST remain on the trails
7) A mud run with super duper steep climb and then a downhill slalom.
8) Sweet single track trail running
9) 3 scramble CPs, 3 mud run CPs, 19 normal CPs, 9 (yes 9) matrix CPs
10) World Class orienteering

...and as of 10am only 8 spots left.
