A little North Shore contingent here...
Toivo Savonen (and his son, John who was a decent college runner at this time) was from Silver Bay, and Norm Linnell Grand Marais.
Joyce was a character. "Dated" Rick Jackson a couple of times... won the women's division of the Yukon Jack 87 mile snowshoe race I believe. Under her married name.

When you say "race #1" what do you mean?
