Has anybody noticed change at IOF WRE list? It seems that IOF will use moderate formula for 2007. I haven't found any explanation yet.

They renormalize (*) the points at the end of each year so that the mean of the whole runner ensemble stays at 1000 and the standard deviation, at 200. For 2006, the renormalization yielded very small changes in points.

(*) I believe the transformation is linear, and the same transformation is applied to points scored at each previous-year event by each runner.

How in the world did I get picked to be "USA1" ??

Thanks Tundra/Desert.

I'am just guessing what happen to those runners who got in average 600 or more points and R status in 2006 and after transformation their points drop below average of 600 points? Do they loose their status?

I believe the answer to kofols's last question is "yes".

There is some history to WRE IDs, Mitch. USA1 was Eirik Moe, our best runner back in 1997 when the WRE system started. I have no idea what ever happened to Eirik (rise and fall of...), but the ID became available, and you were the next person without one.

It seems that those runners who were ranked in the Trial WRE system of 1998-99, but haven't run in the Real WRE system (2000-present) have had their WRE numbers liberated, e.g., Eirik Moe.

So, who was CAN1 before Katarina Smith picked up the top Canadian WRE #?

Ps. the other way to liberate a WRE # is to defect to another country :-).

Tundra, Bmay

Do the IOF track the history of names behind one WRE ID?

Just for curiosity in our case I also miss SLO1 and would be interesting to know. :-)

They must have waited a long time to give Eirik the boot then, if he hasn't run since 1999. My first and only WRE run was the NAOC sprint in Hamilton a few months ago. I was already registered in one of the old men's classes, but somebody was saying here that it would help USA/CAN numerically to have as many people run the WRE sprint as possible, so I switched courses to do my feeble little part. :-)

I feel so unworthy... maybe I should train harder now. Or maybe just retire again until the moment passes.

Or maybe I should move to western Canada, so I can ski again. I hear there's a good PT out there. I seem to be spending as many hours in PT as I do training the past few years...
