2012 Sierra Ski-O Tour: World Cup, US Championships, and North American Championships
At last, it looks like the storm window is open. Beginning 18-January, we are getting at least 6 days of winter storms, hopefully with lots of snow. If all goes as anticipated, we should have enough snow for at least our Tahoe events (30-Jan through 5-Feb) and maybe enough for our Bear Valley events (27-Jan to 29-Jan). We should be able to make a Go/NoGo decision for Bear Valley by 18-Jan and for the Tahoe events by 21-Jan.
If you plan to attend, register now (or by the pre registration deadline of 20-Jan) to get your assigned start times (required for medal competition) and to pay lower fees. You can always cancel ahead of time and we will return your money for events that you cancel before the event day (or at least part of your fees if you cancel on the event day). Also, if we need to cancel one or more events (say, because of a lack of snow), we refund all your event fees for the cancelled events. Your registration, however, is necessary so that we can assign you start times that make the competition fair with everyone getting the same number of early, middle, and late starts (the fastest snow is typically early in the morning).
By the way, if you miss your start times or if you sign up on the day of the event, you will probably get a late start time if there are any open starting slots after the pre registration starts. Yes, if weather slows down your arrival, we will do our best to start you anyway but your start time will be later, possibly when the snow is not as fast. The best way to ensure the best snow conditions for fast skiing is to pre register with a postmark by 20-January-2012.
