Today is a holiday here. Why the 6.30ness of your run?
Not at most private universities. Likewise Columbus Day. We get Labor Day (a nuisance, usually three days after the start of the year), Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, MLK Day (new in the last few years), Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July.
I think my place prefers Presidents to MLK.
It's much easier for universities to be disdainful of presidents (i.e. the powerful) than of African-Americans.
It's a holiday in the sense that we have no 3.45 seminar interrupting our day, but my dentist doesn't stop for any president, so had to get the run in before then. And unfortunately, I have many things to accomplish that need an actual lab before my vacation!
