barb: Gross.

Terry: Yum! Shot bloks helped me feel better when I was flagging during Day 2 last weekend.

Kiki: Ditto. I love my shot bloks!

barb: Gross.

(But that's what I said about Gu before I became hooked.)

Kiki: It's hard to imagine going back to Gu full time after making The Switch. Yum.

ebone: I like them, and I find I don't get sick of them the way I can get sick of some other energy foods during long events (ARs, rogaines). But I prefer the smorgasbord approach to endurance race eating: taking a mix of different foods, including caloric electrolyte drink mixture, gels, bars, Bloks, real food (e.g. PB&J sandwiches), Pop Tarts, ...

Kiki: ... swedish fish ...

ebone: Yeah, those are good, too. I don't remember ever using them during a race, though. I think of them more as a recovery food.

Kiki: I ate them during the paddle section of my one AR experience. My two teammates realized fairly quickly that I did more harm than good when I tried to paddle, so I just sat there, "navigated" and ate swedish fish. Mmmm.

ebone: Sweet! I wish more of my adventure races were like that. Unfortunately, I do more good than harm when I paddle.

barb: My daughter Isabel's first grade teacher had this thing about swedish fish; they were the extra super special reward whenever the class did something surprisingly outstanding.

I'm into smorgasbord too, for rogaines. Cheese sandwiches on hunky whole grain bread, sunflower seeds, chips, crackers, dried cherries, dried apricots, one real apple, dried veggies (mixture of corn, peas, carrots and red pepper from Whole Foods - very light and easy to eat), carrots, homemade oatmeal cookies, nuts.

ebone: How about chocolate for rogaines? Boon or bain?

I had a good chocolate chip experience at Tamarack Spring in the morning, when Vladimir and I were pushing hard on our way in, and it was tough to get any other foods down.

Terry: I think swedish fish are gross. They taste chemically to me.

#  Posted 2007-01-23 06:34:12
Kiki: gasp! blasphemy!

Are you eating the True Fish? All red? None of that multi-colored, fake stuff, I hope.

#  Posted 2007-01-23 07:08:40
ebone: Yeah, the imposter fish that I've had don't meet the superb quality of the originals, which have red berry and floral notes.

Terry: I ate whatever Eric gave me. But whatever Eric gave me, Eric liked enough to eat a whole bunch of them.
