Today was not only marked the 10th annual Salomon Dontgetlost Giant's Ribs but was also the 30th Raid Adventure Run hosted by GHO. It also marked the first time the same team has won ALL three races in our Salomon Dontgetlost Adventure Running Series. Team Foreigners (Nick Duca, Will Hawkins, Serghei Logvin) made a route choice error early in today's stage race format to fall behind the coed team Explore The Bruce/Wilderness Traverse. Foreigners fought back late in the first stage to draw even with team ETB/WT. The two teams battled throughout the 2nd stage of the race and went into the final stage within seconds of each other. On the final checkpoint of the race both teams made big errors with Foreigners recovering quicker to take the win. Last year team ETB/WT took the win away from Foreigners in the Giant's Rib Raid on the last checkpoint so it was sweet revenge for them.

Full results and maps online later this holiday weekend.

Here is a photo of Will Hawkins (L) of Team Foreigners and Bob Miller (R) of Team Explore the Bruce/Wilderness Traverse running hard up the Niagara Escarpment to CP4 in the first stage of yesterday's race (I can't help but notice the difference in fashion). ;-)

Examining the splits you can see how many times the lead changed hands between our top two teams...and then you can see how the wheels fell off for both of them on the very last checkpoint. It appears that ETB/WT lost over 10 minutes while the Foreigners lost over 6 minutes with both teams finishing in the bottom 5 teams on that leg.

I like how Winsplits thinks both of us made mistakes for 14-15.

Thanks, GHO crew. As usual, you did a lot with a little terrain (standard O in that stuff would have been a lot less fun than the GRR was). And nice to retire from your adventure runs (probably: a bit far to come from CT regularly) with a win, undeserved as it was after the navigation disaster at the last CP.

Nick, the full raid was designed for a winning time of 3 hours. So the late nav error likely pushed you over that 3 hour time. Was sub 3 hours possible?

Thanks for calling attention to the big disaster!:) although I'll take full blame for pulling our teams into the wrong area...:) Splits are excellent, it was a great back & forth battle & here are links to the OTrack GPS executable files for each leg from both teams (Foreigners (Will) & Explore The Bruce/WT (Bob)). I couldn't get the tracks to match the maps perfectly & because we covered such a large area the maps are a bit small, but you can still see all the little route differences (I think these only work on PC's?):

@ getawaystix - cool to see those tracks. @hammer definitely was do-able under 3h. the pace was strong for many and long periods of time . WT had many simple and fast route choices, while one could tell that our team was a 'new' team , with less planning (i.e leaving 4 , attack to 12, leaving relay station, and the final control ). even if all3 of us could navigate well we made too many mistakes and made our life complicated for the last part. some might say those errors were small, but big enough to make a difference.

The GPS tracks are just what I was waiting for! Thanks! :) It answers several instances of "how did that team manage to pass us???" :D But also nice to see we made some good choices. And I did bother to draw a good map to that last one, hahaha.
What was it like for the two teams to run together for such long sections? How did you guys pace it? Could you talk among yourselves without revealing strategy? I'm so curious how it went down! :)
Congrats to both teams, and especially Foreigners for the season hat-trick! :)
