Crap! I am not even half way through the last one! I'm in trouble!

MW:
I think my subscription has expired with the last issue, but I don't know because of the way they changed the number of issues last year.

They haven't answered my e-mail, and the online subscription service has been "temporarily unavailable" whenever I've looked over the past few months. Not really sure how to get the new issue.

Maybe the editor will notice this forum and do something about it (he sighed wistfully).

Hmm, I thought my subscription expired before the last one but I still got it.

I'm having the same troubles with contacting them, and buying my subscription for 2007. I have a skype address for Jan, but he is never online :( I got an answer to my email, but it wasn't very helpful!

Cristina:
They're not winning points here. I haven't been able to renew my subscription, either.

I have moved but they do not want to accept a change of address. I'm paying my old roommates in MA to forward it.
Jan 31, 2007 1:24 PM #
j-man:
I've had pretty good luck with getting them to change my address (at least in the past.)

I haven't signed up for this year (due to laziness) but I've also heard it's difficult to do.

Any ideas how to do this?

(Maybe they have a fear of success...)

I tried to sign up in December, but couldn't find any working online resources. As of today same luck with subscription, I mean no luck at all. Can someone point out a working online resource?!
Feb 6, 2007 3:21 PM #
BorisGr:
Well, Orienteering Today seems to have unveiled a new online subscription page. It's at https://subscription.orienteeringtoday.com/subscri...
If someone tries it out, please let us know in this forum if it works!

Hammer:
I just tried and it worked (on the 2nd try). Note that in the contact information you need to include the name that is on your credit card as there is no spot to include name on credit card on the payment screen. So if your credit card name differs from the name you normally use (like mine does) then the transaction will not go through.
Feb 6, 2007 4:11 PM #
feet:
Your credit card is under Hammer? Or is that the name you go by normally? :P

I hear he's still riding the coat-tails of the more famous Dr. Waddington at McMaster.

So what's the all-in cost? It's 60 Euros for the mag and how much to NorAM?

Hm, it still doesn't work for me ... will try later.

Nope. I go by Mike but thats my middle name - just like Swampfox.

I assume many of you got the following e-mail as well.

Dear subscriber of Orienteering Today

Orienteering Today has been through a rearrangement. The makeover has been successful, and the new norwegian owner and publisher SPORT of TODAY is very pleased with the new look.

More maps and pictures is one of the biggest differences from the earlier versions. Also articles about exotic orienteering travels and trainingscamps from all over the world will take a bigger part in the magazine from now on. But it will still contain plenty of material about elite orienteering, together with articles about history and technical aspects of the sport.

In a few days you will be registrated into the new subscription system. When that is done you will get a mail from us, with a description on how to finish the registration. Please registrate with correct information! All old subscribers will get a 15% discount this year if they finish the registration in the subscription system on our website before 15.02.2007.

The next Orienteering Today will be send out 20.02.2007. The magazine will be published 6 times this year, one magazine every second month.

Kind regards,

keep up the good work O-Today.

Nevertheless, I've got a few remarks. I'm not a native english speaker, but I hope that next issues, will be proof-read thoroughly, avoiding stupid copy/paste bugs, missing words and half finished sentences...

Speaking about content : adding elevation gains when comparing choices on map would be appreciated...

Any luck? I got the second email from the publisher last week. Thinking the order form was good to go, I went and tried to give them money, but no avail.

Has anyone used the O-Today form to submit payment?

I've tried several times during last week (including today) to use online subscription system, but no luck - it says "No Transaction Posted". And I have no idea what e-mails are you talking about. I didn't receive any.
Feb 12, 2007 2:33 PM #
bubo:
I received my first e-mail last week - same day as it was postrd here on AP. No second mail yet - but it would be nice to get it in time to get the 15% discount (before 15.02.2007).
The online subscription form suggests that existing customers log in with username and password - of which I know nothing...
Feb 12, 2007 2:40 PM #
hillanddale:
The 2nd email gave me the password and username.
Feb 12, 2007 3:30 PM #
biggins:
I tried it today (with the username/pw from the second email) and it went through ok.
Feb 12, 2007 3:31 PM #
j-man:
I think hillanddale and I got the same email.

The username and password contained therein is what I used to log in. But, things broke down when I tried to do the transaction--then, the same problem as with speedy.

I wonder if they have some problem (which they are blissfully unaware of) in accepting payments from NA?

Rather than re-invent the wheel, perhaps we could direct someone from the mag to read this thread? Has anyone been in touch with a human over there?
Feb 12, 2007 3:32 PM #
j-man:
biggins pre-empted me. Ok -- I'll try again.
Feb 12, 2007 3:49 PM #

I didn't receive any e-mails from them and I do have my login/pass after I tried to subscribe first time. Don't understand what's going on ...
Feb 12, 2007 5:17 PM #
BorisGr:
Still waiting for email #2...
Feb 12, 2007 5:28 PM #
Cristina:
Okay, I logged in with the username and pw I created last week and was able to complete my transaction. Unfortunately, since it wasn't the username that I have yet to receive via email #2, I don't think my discount came through for being a previous subscriber. But at least it worked.
Feb 12, 2007 5:54 PM #
MW:
I created a username and password, and my credit card has been billed $78.10 (ie 60 euros). Unless they do a cross-check on the names of former subscribers I don't expect to be getting my 15% discount.

Europe still has a ways to go in terms of on-line services, by comparison with the US. Love the magazine, but the move to Norway doesn't seem to have made much difference to customer relations.
Feb 12, 2007 6:33 PM #

Ok, I'm in, finally. And the only problem was - I was using MC and couldn't go through. For my big surprise, VISA card went through!!! Congratulations!

I'm not going to re-subscribe until I get the rest of my 2006 magazine. I understand thru the website that issues 4-6 are combined, but I haven't got that yet. Or a reply to my email on the subject. Pity, as its a great magazine.

I didn't get email #1 but I got #2 and even the 15% discount. Most important would be to get the magazines though.
Feb 13, 2007 1:19 PM #

I got both emails and the 15% discount, but jwolff is right. We'll see if the magazine comes...
Feb 15, 2007 5:47 AM #
blairtrewin:
I also had trouble with Mastercard but got through with Visa. I thought my sub extended to 1/2007 but this didn't seem to be recognised by the system (although the 15% discount is effectively a free issue anyway).
Feb 15, 2007 12:23 PM #

I, too, failed with my MC first and then succeeded with the VISA. Weird.

So... Has anyone in North America received the 1st issue of 2007yet? I haven't.

Yep, I've got mine in NM.
Mar 11, 2007 7:15 PM #
the_latvian:
Yes, I received mine in PA 2-3 days ago. The fans will be delighted to hear that the orienteering history section has survived the change of ownership and is still going at a full pace.

Spike:
Mine arrived in KC on Thursday.
Mar 11, 2007 7:59 PM #
blairtrewin:
I got not one, but two, issues in the mail on successive days - am wondering whether the system treated my sub as a new sub starting 1/2007 on top of my existing sub ending 1/2007. Has this happened to anyone else who had subs continuing into 2007?

Mine hasn't arrived yet, but that is because Orienteering Today will not accept my Mastercard, and wont talk to me about any other way to get the money to them.

From an e-mail I received this morning....

"We have today posted Orienteering Today 1/08.
Shipping is said to take 4-40 days?

This time we have sent it in an envelope to avoid some minor problems we had last time?"

My money is on 40 days. Of course, I'm still waiting for the previous issue...

Chris, I had an envelope from them in the mail last night, but as I was on my way out of the house, haven't opened it yet. I suspect it's the previous issue though as my address was handwritten...

FYI:
email I received this weekend:

Dear Subscriber,
You are all waiting for the next issue of Orienteering Today.

The last months have been quite turbulent for us who work with the magazine. Our editor and myself has been trying to establish a business model that we both can believe in and live with, and it is with great disappointment I have realized that this not has been possible.
When I first agreed to help saving Orienteering Today in 2006 I felt that the orienteering world needed a magazine like this. And after hard work and hard times we have published a magazine I feel we can be proud of.
I have during the last years put very much, both time and money, into Orienteering Today. But I have now come to a point where I not am able to spend more time on the magazine and I have to look for other solutions.
I therefore have started (and been working with for the last 14 days) a process to find new owners for Orienteering Today. I am quite optimistic and I believe the magazine will have new owners within short time. My first aim in this process is not to earn money on this, but to find a long term solution for the magazine. I hope to have finished this process within a month from now.
I will continuously keep you orientated about the situation and again I will say sorry for keeping you waiting.
Best regards,
Per Arne Troset

PS! Our previous editor Geir Nilsen has yesterday published news on his homepage OPN. After my opinion this article does not correspond with the realties. I don?t feel it right of me to make any further comments on such an article.

An email arrived today:

Dear Subscriber,

There have been some hard work with Orienteering Today lately, but I am no happy to inform all our customers that there is close to 100% sure that the magazine will be alive the rest of this year and also next year.

I am now in final negotiation to establish a new organization for the magazine.

I am quite sure we will publish both an issue 3/08 and an issue 4/08 this year.

Publishing schedule and more information will come within a week or two.

Still sorry to keep you waiting, but thanks for your patience.

Best regards,

Per Arne Troset

when do we have to renew?

ie., when will we get the x number of issues that we were promised y years ago? have they caught up yet?

I've lost track.
Oct 28, 2008 7:54 AM #
Arlaharen:
I think that we will get this years issues and then we have to renew if we would like to continue. I always like the articles in the magazine but when the news in the magazine is over 6 months old it has to be a pretty "exotic" event or topic to keep my interest. I'm sorry to say that I'm not going to renew my subscription. If they can keep the paper running for a complete year without delay and good solid articles I will reconsider.
Oct 28, 2008 6:23 PM #
bshields:
I'm pretty sure the deal I signed up for involved automatic renewal (it was by credit card, so assuming they haven't lost my card info...) So if you don't want to renew, the onus is probably on you to say so.
Oct 28, 2008 11:41 PM #
gruver:
You signed up for whaaaat????
Oct 28, 2008 11:56 PM #
bshields:
Well, at the rate I've been receiving magazines, I'm not too worried about the automatic renewal clause ever being invoked, but I'm planning to cancel if I ever get my 10th issue.
