Interesting article. Maybe I can shake my habit of making 15-minute mistakes during important races, such as:
Telemark Day 1
Telemark Day 2
Morgan Territory short-O champs
Jukola Relay

first off, where is the problem, not realising when you are making the mistake, or not being able to fix it (relocate) quickly afterwards?
If it is the former, you need to get your alarm bells ringing within a minute maximum of going wrong, and pay attention to them.
I think the problem is not being able to relocate, because I spend too much time thinking about the fact that I'm lost, how it will affect my race etc.
I should do some of those exercizes where I run without looking at the map for a while, then try to figure out where I am.
